Hey all,

Quick question for those of you who have ventured into this before. The pin layout for the BDR-S03 is the same for all blu-rays? with the ground pin being the middle one? Also, can I neutral case wire the diode to a flex drive?

I'm pretty sure that the pinout for all 405nm laser diodes is the same.

(thanks mauswiesel)
Case pin is unused, so with a flexdrive you would want to solder the case pin and ground pin together to make the case ground.

so meaning.. i can make the case either positive or negative right??

depends on how i will ground it to either negative pin or positve one right?

yes correct. you can make it case positive or case negative depending on which pin you attach to the neutral case pin.

Wait a minute on that...

If I'm thinking correctly, I believe that will depend on the driver. For instance,

If you have a FlexDrive, you can use the 'diode to driver' method of negative battery supply if you want to, because both negeative connections on the FlexDrive are continuous.

But if you were to try the same thing with the positive connection to the FlexDrive, it would be the same as not having the driver there. The diode would be getting a direct connection to the battery...

Oh I see. I didn't realize the flexdrive was "drive positive" or however that is referred to as.

I hope I didn't sound condescending with those comments...

I wanted the FlexDrive to work that way too! I had just been thinking about it the other day... if it could work that way, because I wanted to use it in a case positive situation with a green module in my new Mini Green kit, but I came to the conclusion that it will not work without isolating the module...

If you isolate the case of the host, it shouldn't matter what driver you use. The flexdrive can definitely be used in a case-positive scenario. Check the manual and you'll see several possible layouts including case positive.
