Any peltier cooled hosts out there?

Just wondering if anyone has developed/is selling a small LD host, with a peltier device and thermistor sensor. Preferably also with a 3 pin socket for the LD package.

Thanks, I probably should have searched a bit more before posting...

I like your design, but it is a little large for my needs. I am looking to construct a laser head with peltier cooling, etc. for microscopy use. I'd like the total diameter of the head to be no more than 1 inch, lightweight and passively cooled.

I might just stick to using a fiber delivery method from my much larger Coherent Radius host (peltier cooled, etc), by sticking a fiber launcher on the end of it.

As for LD sockets.. Coherent use one on their radius lasers, so I think if it is designed specifically for the LD package, it is probably OK to use a socket. I have been very pleased with the ability to swap in and out various diodes for testing in this host without having to do more than remove 2 hex bolts.

Sockets can certainly be used with care and careful application engineering.

They're just generally discouraged here because without careful usage, one little slip with these small drivers will kill diodes instantly. Generally a noob is not likely to have the skill level necessary for successful usage of sockets. So it's much easier to say "if you have to ask, you shouldn't use it", and those that DO know better won't even have to ask if it's ok for them to use.

But sockets are fine in skilled hands for many applications, or else they wouldn't exist. And in this case, you weren't asking *how* to use, you're just asking if there is a readily available host around with a socket, to which the answer is that I have not seen anyone use them much on this sight, and there's not a commonly-used hobbyist host being sold with such a thing that I know of.
