For the price I couldn't resist the host. With it I get a "free" mystery 405 diode and driver. Anyone have a guess as to what the diode and driver could be?

What's special about the host you just like side click? I could bet it's a 5-50mw 405nm..

I prefer the S4X from survival for few bucks more.. or a C6 with extended copper but that's just me. I've fallen obsessed with my PL-E Pro..

Seems like a pretty generic bluray thing indeed. I wonder where they got the 10 watts figure from, i guess it's something like 100-200 mW if even that.

The host may be nice for another project, though i wonder what quality optics are in there. It says the focus is adjustable, but there is no way to know if it's just plastic crap lenses in there or real glass, or if they could be replace by 'standard' G3 lenses and such.

Aaron, that host is actually the same as your 'saber' - just with a shorter barrel! Still a good quality host, especially for a "Chinese" one. XPL sells some in that host too. I've seen companies LPM them at 500mW+ but I haven't seen people actually buy and LPM them. I've also found them as low as $30, I think.

I know it is like the host I already have, at the price and after having one for a while I got a second with the idea of putting a NUBM44 in it.

Once I have a Hyperion (next month) I will test the diode and likely stuff it into a pen build.

Based on the 2W version I have it could very well be a 12x or 16x, If so I'll cram it into the smallest 1x16340 host I can find and use it in place of a lighter.

I was quoted $65 for a PLE-Pro host with no driver or diode.

IMHO spending $50 on a host isn't a big deal when your spending $100 and up for Diode, Driver, and Lens.

Would $20 be more reasonable for this host, sure.

Would $30 be a more reasonable for a PLE-Pro? host.

Like was pointed out, I already have this host with a M140 diode in it. I paid $100 for that one and it has so far has been solid.

I'm a noob to building lasers, I'd rather destroy cheap China crap while learning. I'll be sure to post a build thread when I get going on this.
