Nevermind ...............I wont even get into it......Idiot...Thanx for your time people...In-experience rears its ugly head..We live and learn..I was going by cell phone pic at the time......

Hi gloryofblaze,

There is no difference in size between the PHR diode and the GGW diode. Both are 5.6mm package.

All the diodes in both sleds are the same size so you can't be confusing the IR/red or Red diodes either. Are you confusing the heatsinks that the diodes are glued into perhaps?

It is true that the Red diode in the GGW is longer than the PHR but all of these diodes fit into the Aixiz 5.6mm modules so please don't go thinking you have to find a different one.

Post some pics for clarity if you can.

the PHR diode and the GGW diode.

He could be talking about the SF-AW210 diode as they are commonly referred to a 6x (although they're not) either way they are the same size, i don't think he will be messing around with anything but 5.6mm diodes yet.

SW-AF210, oops sorry, SF-AW210 are 6x as far as I'm aware... ? Got a link to the contrary? As you say though, these are still 5.6mm.

(Thanks for the nod on the sig Stu!)

sorry no link, personal experience though.

i have an old blu-ray drive that had that diode in it and its maximum burning speed for me was 4x.. don't know why.

also in power terms, the GGW is a 6x and that overpowers the SF by quite a substantial amount considering they're both supposed to be the same writing speed.

Just calling something a "6X" or knowing that it records at 6X speeds, does NOT mean it is the same diode. The GGW is a stronger diode than the SF-AW.

The diodes in those sleds are all 5.6mm

Peace,

Are you certain it was a SF diode in your burner? (You're making me paranoid now. I even had to check I even got the first two letters right!). What was the drive it came from? Make and serial number?

It has been generally accepted that the GGW is able to sustain higher powers but, of late, there is debate.

This may be worth taking to a dedicated thread but for the moment...

... to stay on topic, regardless of power they are still 5.6mm diodes!

Thanks Dave, I stand corrected, and only seconds after posting.

Funny how things are missed and become facts in our singular worlds.

The mogul has spoken and I would never dare to question.

There you have it, SFs are 4x! At least it's still a 5.6mm diode. I had something right.

I don't mean to split hairs, but I didn't say that the SF-AW was a 4X. We have 4X diode/sleds available. The SF fits nicely between the 4X (~150mA) and the GGW (~200mA). The SF is good for ~170mA.

And yes -- We have been getting some crappy GGW sleds lately. I harvested one for Glenn that had a low powered reader diode in it. I also got one that had all the same markings of the SF on the diode. I hope we finish off all of these engineering samples off quickly and get some more QC rejects in.

Peace,
dave

No problem Dave but if you follow the Diode Compilation link, it states that the SF is a 4x. This may be why Stuart thought it wasn't a 6x. I always thought is was rated as a 6x but not as good as the GGWs.

Is the compilation thread inaccurate? I know it hasn't been updated in a while.

I too am hoping to get past the, 'engineering', examples seen recently. I have yet to reluctantly dive in to the latest batch of mine. I might PM you, if you don't mind, regards any markings I find one this latest batch.

Yeah. AFAIK, that is Niko's baby. He has been very busy with school lately.

Inaccuracies creep in even with professionals. If something is being run by volunteers, the accumulation of inaccuracies can be large.

Hopefully Niko will get a break soon. We have a couple of his proojecdts that need updating.

Plus, remember, the compilation thread is only as good as the info WE report.

Peace,
dave

All very true. So, for clarity, is the SF-AW210 a 4x or a 6x?

Thanks,

Diodes are not really an anything X. The numbers refer to the relative writing speed of the burner. A GGW is not a 6X diode. It is a diode that can be driven up to ~200mA. It is from a 6X burner. The SF-AW can be run at ~170mA. We do not know what the writing speed of the burner that they came from was.

Yes. We use the ?X as a short-cut for communication. However, we cannot really say any diode is any kind of "X".

A GGW-H20L is good to ~200mA
An SF-AW210 is good to ~170mA
A GGW-H10N is good to ~150mA
A PHR is good to ~120mA

How many X's should we give to each of them? The concept is not really relevant.

Peace,
dave

That is clear enough. So clear, even I can understand. Thanks Dave.
