Yes... It's a go!

If it doesn't work out, Dave can refund. But it will definitely work out. Absolutely no question about that! :)

I just noticed this thread now... If there's going to be a second round I've got a few bucks I can chip in for the cause.

IgorT! i don't mind.. but if you want, i'll hold out on the GGW deal you mentioned earlier.
and put that money towards my 8x LAZOR build i'll buy from ya in the future.. unless you really have some to just "toss away" :p

but yea.. we surely need to make sure you get yourself a diode for yourself once you're done with all this.

i say we keep donating! where's everyone else?? hewwwwwoo!

You can have:
- A discount on a future 8x build, OR
- FIVE PHR diodes for your own builds, OR
- ONE GGW for your own build...
- LOC or LCCs on top!

I would like to contribute myself. I saw a sled for 112.00 dollars but I have been advised that it might not be legit. The website is called laser, surplus parts. It says its from a pioneer BDR-203 8x. Quoted from the description "This sled is from Pioneer's 8x Blu-ray Burner BDR-S03-OEM"

Those "8x sleds" are apparently the BD-S03, not the BD-203... No one knows which drives they come from, but they don't seem to stand up as well as diodes from actual 8x drives.

But it does say 203... I cant give the link because it blocks out. :(

You will notice in the "description" that it says that these are 203 sleds out of the S03 driver. He also continues to cover his a$$ by saying that we don't have any specs or suggested mA. The picture is of an S03 sled. Avoid the S03 until we can determine its level. It DOES NOT appear to be able to handle 8X levels of current or output.

I know that I am being redundant with PM's, but we have had MANY people get burned by this sled based on what appears to be the first diode I tested. That diode has turned out to probably be a "freak."

Peace,
dave

Some people want to help so much that they are going on anyway. We now have $25 in the fund for the second diode LOL!

I'll re-edit the first post. We are off and running again!

Only $155 more

So the strategy is to test both diodes for a better data set? Or is it to push one to even higher currents and then set the cycle machine to like 25 hours instead of 100?

No donation for over 30 minutes!?!

SACRILEGE!

I have here five (5) SenKat red burner diodes. These are from the 16X DVD burners.

IIRC ~300mA of current will get you ~200mW of burning power. Add a module, a heat sink, and a Rkcstr driver and you have yourself a 200mW burner for only ~$25. Build a couple of them, sell them, and your diodes are FREE

A $5 donation will get you one diode shipped in the US

$10 will get you two

$15 will get you three

$20 will get you ALL FIVE (of course you will have to donate the $20 BEFORE someone else donates the first $5)

Peace,

I'll fix that :) BTW I covered the first paypal fee this time. I forgot the first time.

We can get a good idea of the capabilities of them by checking the plot of several. However, to really know how high is safe, we have to run one to failure. We can then compare the slope of the "averages" to the slope of the dead one.

If we get a second, IgorT can kill the one and still have one left over for him to build himself a laser.

A very quick search of the net found that the lowest price I can get a Pioneer BDR-203 (that is available now), is ~$230.

I know no one likes waiting. But we could always wait for newegg to get them back in for $199.99
