Yeah, i used to make some PP money on my PHR lasers and 6x lasers, but times got tough and orders dropped..

I do have a few specialized orders, but many are free-work orders. :yh:
Basically favor builds, for people who helped me a lot.

I killed expensive diodes and now i'm "broke" too... :yabbem:
Basically, i just do a lot of research in the end, and the money just dissapears somehow... :undecided:

Worst of all, some Chinese people scammed us all and i wasted $250 on 50mW PHRs, sold as 150mW & 120m CW, which should be as good as 8x diodes!

So i'm gonna send Dave $50 USD.

If a few people send the cost of a PHR diode, i'll give them a good PHR diode for that money, and it should cover the 8x murder candidate.

I'll write up a testing protocol, but simply speaking, i'm looking for powers the poor diode can survive for 25+ 50+ or even 100+ hours, the last result would be the IDEAL result, and would provide people with a few years of "normal-use" of a laser pointer....

This is good!

So which diode do i murder then?

I can't murder the first one, cos i need to make you a lazor!

I can murder the second one, which was meant for a personal lazor, but i guess i can live without an 8x for a while longer...

If you want the PHR deal, you must let me know so that I can get IgorT the addresses

Peace,

So, what's gonna happen is this:

The 8x murder diode candidate test protocol:

I will test two LG 8x diodes... Make full PIV plots on my v2 "Diode Analyzer" (aka OmniDrive with temerature display in v2)...

The plots will result in power readings like the ones in the attachment.
EDIT: Forgot the attachment!

Of the two diodes, one will have a slightly higher efficiency...

That one will be classified as "freak" (hopefully) and used for Dave's laser i am making for him (A "Classic" with my v3 All-In-One Heatsink/Module and my driver)....

The lower efficiency diode will have the power set between 300-400mW CW, depending on the full PIV plot and efficiency, and then..

I will put it on my own "boost driver" and cycle it to death with 1min cycles.

What happens is this. The diode is powered ON for a minute and OFF for a minute... The power it produces will degrade the die.

But more importantly, the 1min cycles of powering up will torture the diode additionally...

I think 2 min cycles would result in longer life! Less power UPs and Downs in the same power ON time...

Altho some people would disagree with this. But fact is, the more often a diode is powered UP the more hurt it gets.

So what i NEED is most people's usage habbits...

So please, if you have an 8x lazor of any kind, donate here, and tell me your usage stats (how long you usually turn your laser ON at once)!!

This is very important, as i want to make a test protocol that will resemble the most common laser usage....

This entire project will probably take two weeks. Dave needs to send me another diode, i have to plot both, and put the weaker one on my cycler the better one in Dave's lazor.

This means it MIGHT take a little longer to make Dave's lazor, altho it will be assembled as soon as i get the second diode and plot it on my Diode Analyzer to figure out which is better...

EDIT: Attachment!!!

Yeah this is going fast!

this should be done for the 12x too...

What do you think?

For sure for sure...

Igor is our man! Hey Igor, please edit your above post to say the full model number of the LG drive. Just because I have not tried anything but a Pioneer BDR-203, and I don't know exactly the LG drive model...

This is great! I'm sure we can do the same thing for the 12X diode when it becomes available...

If someone donates ~$55 i give them a fully plotted normal efficiency GGW diode!!!

With a printed complete PIV plot too! :yh:

Just make sure you send me your addy and cover the shipping cost...

The LG BH08LS20 is the ones most people have been harvesting from. They are a little less expensive than the Pioneer

Only $75 now!

Peace,
dave

Close, try $10.59. LOL. Anyway, now I'm gonna have to donate to LPF as well. Have fun murdering the diode Igor.

Thank you for the correction!

Again, this donation will give the person a fully PIV plotted PHR diode for $11 USD....

So i'll have some work ahead of me, but i'll do it GLADLY!

See guys, this is why i love this forum!

Many people and our shared interest is the "science" of laser diodes...

By "science" i mean, that we'll figure out how long our 400mW+ lazores will survive...

Unfortunatelly i'll be left without an 8x diode in the end... :undecided:

Unless Dave finds me another LG 8x drive or i get a Pioneer 203BK for $170...

I do hope i get some 6x lazor orders too, so i can afford even more diode experiments in the end!

I have to wait till my aunt gets home, she has the PP account. If not tonight, defiantly tomorrow.

Dont underestimate Dark's sales. I talked to a few people who bought lasers and he is making around $100 per laser for the 6X builds. Probably more for the 8X's.

I don't underestimate his sales, i want to see his soldering skillz in person, and i hope his intentions are research oriented as well....

My intentions are research, i don't make much money on my laser sales, i do a lot of research instead..

He has yet to contribute some data to our forum. If he has more orders than me, good for him! Altho i thought he charges $20 USD for a laser build?

If he wants to contribute I hope he contributes here and starts sharing his diode data with the rest of forum.. :yh:

If he does, everyone will know he is also in for the knowledge and not just the money... I might have to apologize for contemplating a different motive, but it will be worth it in the end. We will gather MUCH more data that way if we pool it together!

So Dave said i shouldn't have to put money into this fund, since i'm doing the work...

I'll wait till tomorrow, so i see what happens before sending PP to Dave...

Again, it is my belief that 8x laser owners/makers should pay into this to learn how long their lasers will live!

I'll return any donations with diodes IF REQUESTED in a PM with an address and donation amount!

You don't HAVE to ask, but you CAN if you want to....

So i guess my contributions will be the diodes?
