8X Diode Murder fund

This is kinda funny!

I bet nobody expected to be donating money to kill $340 worth of diode...or has this happened before?

Personally, if two months ago someone told me I would be donating to a charity that kills diodes I wouldn't of believed them.:crackup:

Exposure to laser light causes insanity.

We have never had this kind of donation for the sacrificial lambs. Normally it is just one or two of us putting out our own money just to burn a diode up.

IgorT has literally spent thousands of his own dollars in search of knowledge (mostly so that WE could have better lasers).

Once the experiment produced a good running laser, If we got lucky, we could sell it to get more laser parts.

That was before the "stores" sprang up.

We have lost several great builders because they cannot break even any more. A single parent with two boys to feed cannot compete with someone who lives at home with his mother.

Well I think we should keep this type of thing regular. Its not like it took very long at all!

We all benefit, and it is a small price for us to gain the knowledge necessary to run our LG diodes at the proper current.

When the 12x comes out I hope you (dave) will organize something like this again, especially If the only people willing to spend the money on these types of experiments are not going to get anything in return. In the end we are all going to use this data to our benefit...

Anyways, I have an LG 8x ready for its driver, (get my lava v5s tomorrow) I will have a graph up within the next few days...hopefully this will help because I dont recall seeing anyone with an LG graph yet. Probably wont graph it much past 300mA because the limitations of the v5 + I want the results of this experiment.

Post your driver thread Igor!!!

Otherwise, I believe we don't need more than two diodes for now, only if the test results warrant more research, should we perhaps organise a third fundraiser for more!

But i think it might not even be necessary, if we get good-enough results at 400mW+ or even 500mW+... In effect we might be able to establish a life-time range between the two powers! An approximate range of course, the diode efficiency will still determine the actual life, as it is in effect the result of the die perfection!

The insanity of it is as much genious as it is crazy! :evil:

And we got er done in just 24h too!

Gotta love this forum and it's members for their generosity in search of knowledge!

Dave: The experiment will not produce a running laser for sale, but two expensive MURDERED diodes as you damn well know yourself.. It can't be done any other way... :evil:

The three lasers i will make for you, Scopeguy and myself are paid for by us, so we can't sell them either... :angel:

Yes bryce, or did you forget that Igor has many diodes and will first have to find out which 2 are the least efficient as they die first, so that we get a low safety limit for the other, good diodes?

I didn't forget. I was just surprised he's started already. But of course he would have plotted that diode anyway, so not really surprised I guess.

Actually i'm expecting Glenn's package as we speak, waiting for the postman to ring... :evil:

I get two nice label-printers for labeling lazores (and the MURDER experiment diodes inside by number, so we know which PIV plotted diode went first if we cycle them side by side)..

And Dave's BDR-F03 (F stands for Fake) "freak" diode is in the package i am waiting for too! The only one that ever did 300mW+ and survived - altho it could just be a matter of seconds.... :undecided:

EDIT: Woot (whatever that means), page TEN, this HAS to be a new record! :evil:

I can't thank you guys enough for doing this, i'll suck the diodes for as much data as humanly possible...

EDIT 2: Oh and i actually slept tonight, i feel sane again. Not looking too good for the poor diode MURDER candidates tho.

Kewl! I'm dying to know what those "fakes" are capable of. Hopefully it's more powerful than the GGW.

How many "Fakes" are going to die? Two? (I can't remember, but I know it was posted somewhere)

The Freak get's ploted, if it survives the plot it gets returned to Dave, as he paid for it.

But before that he got two "F03's" for free for testing, and those two get MURDERED on my Cycler! :evil:

Basically my Cycler will be hot before it even gets to see the first 8x diode! I just need to give it a pretty "dress" (= enclosure)....
