Do these diodes really very this much, or do you think people might have scewed results somehow? At 310ma some people get 420 while others get 490, thats a huge difference!!!

Could some one tell me where I can buy a good bdr-203 8X?

You can get the sleds for the cheapest Ive seen at highteckdealz - BDR-203 8x BluRay Laser Diode SLED [BDR-203BK] - $112.00

Members send me their data just because they are willing to show their results (it is not a lottery, nothing to win), but you must take into consideration that there are a lot of variables:
1) the diodes do not have a high P.O. precision, their Power Output may vary.
2) Some of them are removed from different BR writers, and the Q.A. of the writer manufacturer may have different quality treshold.
3) Take into account that the LPM (Laser Power Meter) used to check the P.O. may have small reading tolerances.
4) Luck has his part: in your example you have choosen two members showing to be at the opposite ends of the luck range......:yh:

Conclusion: diodes data are real, you can give a look to IgorT plots too, to understand how different their P.O. can be.....

..be sure it says "203" and not "s03". they are not the same thing. some members here name the latter one "F03" as in "fake 03" ;-)
for what i know, the only source for 8x diode is a fresh, new 8x drive. no sleds available at all. that info is some weeks old, though. may have changed by the time.

Why would you assume that people are making mistakes and/or lying in the measurements? My posting (partially copied) below was followed up with additional clarification that they were built with the same components, by the same person, tested the same way.

Peace,
dave

I just posted the info on two set at 310mA. One is putting out 415mW the other is putting out 490mW.

Perhaps you could provide a link for this. I've just been all over Kendall's website. I do not see him offering any 8X diodes. Did you take this info from an old post rather than from the website?

Peace,
dave

No, im not calling anyone a liar, just wondering if their was some variable that needs to be taken into consideration and i think i found it, their different diodes. This brings me to my next question, is the LG diode always higher powered (cherry picked) or is this just luck???

4 some reason the link isn't working. Go to laser surplus parts .com and type in BDR-203
EDIT now that I look at it - and its price tag - i am pretty sure its an so3. o well...

Maybe you need to read your own posting a bit more carefully then. Your implication was clearly that people were introducing inconsistency into the measurements.

HighTechDealz and Laser Surplus Parts are NOT the same thing. You said that you found the best deal at HTD and now say look at LSP. The diode at LSP is the very clearly debunked "S"03. It is NOT an 8X diode. It may be, at best, a 2X-4X diode. NONE of them have survived 300mA. The owner of LSP knows this, but continues to sell them using misleading information in the website.

Do you have difficulty reading a graph or do you not understand what is in them (or have you not even read them?)? Neither LG, nor Pioneer are "higher powered" or "cherry picked." They are the same diode. As the information in this thread clearly shows, diodes are variable.

Peace,
dave

Ya, I accidently put down the wrong website and I did say that it was an so3.

So essentially their is no difference in where you get your diode, and LG and Pioneer are the same...
Where then, can the cheapest diode be found - which burner???

This is not an 8X diode shopping thread, nor an amazon search. This information is easily found in another section of the forum or with a google search. Please at least TRY to find the answer yourself, especially since it's only a few clicks away.

k, just thought you might no of a cheap one...

You're gonna need to put on your "big boy pants" and use the
[Search] button a little more... rather than posting in the wrong
threads asking questions that you can easily answer yourself..
The members here don't really like to Spoon Feed Noobs...

Why don't you do a little research on your own... the tons of
info on the Forum is Free to anyone that reads it...

I don't mind spoon-feeding them, it helps my post count . But it does get a tad annoying when someone asks the same question...again...and again...and again.

ok, ok, ok, Ive got the information now (using my big boy search button) I thought the 8x diode thread would be a good place to ask about 8x diodes, didn't mean to offend anyone. :(
