I guess that the can could be connected to the heatsink (negative), bacause the sled was connected to gnd from the start. Maybe...

Well, just to let you guys know, after I saw how HOT that 4/6 X diode is, I figured...'if I kill this one, it will be a good excuse to get that drive'! So, I went ahead and went with my gut instinct, and connected the heatsink/LD to the MXDL case! I even checked it with an ohms meter to make sure it had a good contact before I turned it on! Lol.

I am happy to report, that it works just fine. The mW reading was the same, whether the heatsink was connected to the MXDL case, or not...

P.S. Please forgive the double posting. But it was a question that I was desperately hoping for help on. So, I'm going to post this same thing in my thread as well.

Pictures coming! I'm waiting for it to get dark. The beam is slightly visible in normal room lighting. I expect to see the beam in the dark. Not sure how the violet will photograph with my camera. But, I will post some pictures in the other thread (my thread). Hopefully drlave & Hemlock Mike will do the same! My next one is definitely going to be one of those 4/6 X drives! Awesome...

Re: 4x Blu

There's one word that comes to mind....WOW! That's a great picture! My picture is not too good of quality. But, for an idea of the comparison between the PS3 @ 16.7mW's vs my BWU-100A blu-ray @ 63.2mW's, here they are together...

Re: 4x Blu

DrLava's picture speaks volumes here. I couldn't wait any more and powered up ;D
I have gone from 50 mA to 100 mA and my graph almost sits on top of DrLava's graph -- Amazing. The beam looks somehow more defined than the PS3 diodes when focused.

I took a pictiure of my PS3 (left 13 mW) and the burner (right 19 mW) blured into 3" dots on white paper. The color is mostly the same.
