Hey there,
Jsut wanted to let you all know that I have recieved an email from the owner of Aixiz and he is looking into getting 405nm coated/plain glass lenses.

Thought you would all want to know.

Yeah and if he takes as long as he does to ship stuff, you could be waiting a few years!!

It is good news. Just will take some time. Longer perhaps than my average GB!!! lmao!

Did he quote you a price for these specially AR coated lenses ?
Why not buy from Edmund Optics, they already have glass lenses that meet your needs.

I am having 405nm AR coated single element glass lenses made at the moment, and they will fit wherever an AixiZ lens nut fits. They are designed to have a FL between the acrylic and the Meredith lens. Glass will let more 405nm light through and the slightly longer FL will allow for easier focusing than with a Meredith. In the end, they came out very similar to the Meredith glass lens, only slightly larger.

I will be testing them in just over two weeks, and if they work, i could order a larger quantity. I am paying a fortune for the first batch, but a group buy could bring the price down, if enough people were interested... The tools will already be made, so it would also go faster. The slowest part would probably be the GB itself.

I also ordered some of them with a Multilayer coating. Costs 1 Euro more, but they would work great with reds (or any other wavelength) as well.

@IgorT

Sounds cool, you should start a feeler in the GB section. If the price is right (Especially considering the amount of people with 405nm's) you'd probably see a whole lot of interest.

Yeah, it might be good to start a feeler now. Otherwise it'll take too long. People would also have to decide if they want a 405nm or a multilayer coating. It might be better to have a universal multilayer AR coated lens available, but it costs a bit more, and the 405nm single coating could let a bit more light through with Blu Rays.

I just need to find a source for the plastic AixiZ lens nuts with a clear acrylic lens. I don't want to discard an entire AixiZ module just to get the plastic nut and mount the lens in... Any help with this would be appreciated.

What would the difference be in the 405nm coted glass lens, and the Meredith lens? As far as output power. And price.

You will have to wait for the testing to be done to know, for sure what the output increase will be (if there is one). As far as price difference is concerned, you can do that yourself. The price for these is already posted and Merideth has their prices posted in their website

Here, I'll do part of your work.

I can't say that exactly. The Meredith makes a 30% increase compared to a clear acrylic lens. And the Meredith is AR coated for reds.

So the least i expect is 30%. If it should be a bit less, better focusability might not be worth it by itself. Or maybe it would, because they are cheaper than the Meredith..
But since the numerical aperture is higher, than with the Meredith, there is no reason for the power to be lower. Both will collect all of the light coming from the diode. And due to the 405nm coating, the power should be higher.

But there is no way for me to tell how high exactly, until i receive them and test them.

All the info i have is in the feeler thread i linked above. When i test them, i will report the results and send some out for further testing and verification. Then people can decide if they want them or not. For now, i'm just gathering interest, so that i can ask for a price quote and so that it goes faster, after the lens is tested and we determine it is good.
