It's taken a while but I finally got my 6x pen finished. I set the current at 155 mA and get 134 mW with the Aixiz glass lens and 164 mW with the plastic!!
It is powered by 2 LiIon AAA 3.6 volt cells.

My granddaughter would say, "Matchy Matchy"

I LOVE the color scheme.

These look VERY cool! The power levels are pretty impressive too!!

Nicely done

Yep.. Tha AiXiZ glass is coated for red.. kills the power of a bluray. MOST of the AiXiZ acrylics are not coated, letting more blu thru(silly pun I know) :)

Mike, that really is an awesome looking laser. I love the anodized look. [smiley=thumbsup.gif]

Beautiful work there Mike! And anodizing fit for a Prince! :D (or an artist once formerly known as Prince...)

Nice power too.

The color is actually a transparant laquor (liquor?) paint which allows the finish below to shine through. I got a big can of it at an auto store.
Both lasers have to warm to body temp to put out max power. Current draw also increases a tad too.

Daddy is a Kenom Kryton which I decorated with some groves. The Kryton is a super barrel for almost anything because there's a ton of space in there. The "son" was a different story.

Gus -- Good question !!  Yes as the current goes up, so does the demand for heatsinking.  As I tested this, I was using only the front portion of the Aixiz module but I noticed some warming.  I retained as much of the module as possible in the design and so far, I limit run time to 30 seconds.  No real heating but enough to be careful.  I'm using arctic 5 epoxy for one machined fitting.
Remember, I'm being careful at this power level and taking no chances.  ;D

Wow Mike, nice job! 155mA's huh! I guess $280 bucks for a 6 X diode don't scare you none!

Jay -- Damn yes I'm scared. The diode draws more current as it warms up. It also puts out more photons ;D I've never found the knee of the curve on the graph. I just keep pushing a little at a time.
The "son" starts getting warm after about 30 seconds but is stable.
