Its undoubtedly going to be a combination of running the diode at slightly higher power, and has already been mentioned, better optics, media & mechanical's , otherwise I'd of expected to have seen a PDF datasheet for a new "higher power" 405nm.

Well, I can't wait to see the results for these...

Even if it is a smaller canned diode, if they're powerful enough I'm sure some people would make modules for them. 3.8 mm wouldn't be an issue, as we already have aixiz ones made for them.

They make modules for 3.8? Please give me a link for that.

EDIT
I just noticed, 100 posts! YAY!

That is probable but you never know.

I should have 12mm modules for 3.8mm diode in stock in about 2 weeks according to my supplier.

I have also seen this, it is 12x but I didn't know if there was anything to the s07j designation that might indicate an improved or different diode?

A member sent me a PDF of a new diode which is 400mW pulsed and 200mW CW , I hope these are higher power diodes as 405nm is my favorite wavelength :)

I will chose single-mode diode over multi-mode diode any time. For burning power I will use the 445nm laser.

It isn't the Panasonic LNC416FG is it?

High-output Violet Laser Diodes for Blu-ray™ Recording | Blu-ray™ Solution (PC Drive Edition) | Semiconductors | Panasonic Global

http://www.semicon.panasonic.co.jp/en/catalog/cat/pdf/T12014CE-1.pdf

I'm guessing not since the specs say it is only 90mW continuous, but it does show a peak of 450mW but that is pulsed.

Opnext has the mutlimode 500mW 405 listed now, but it still looks vaporwarish.

450mW for pulsed is a positive in this case that ususally where the first knee is in graphing, not always, but as a rule;)

Definitely prefer single mode, but I'm starting to get a feel that I like different lasers for different things.

For just shooting an evil wicked violet beam into the sky, if the opnext will blow out 1+ watt of violet as a "star pointer" type laser, I would take that.

Of course I would prefer the same power in Single Mode, but you know how that goes!

The LNC416FG says it is 450mW pulsed 405nm / 80mW CW 405nm but it does show 90mW CW @ 90mA. Threshold is 38mA @ 5.2v and it is in a standard 3.8mm package.

That is an interesting burner, because it also has an interesting CD/DVD diode in it as well.

LNCT22PK is a 3.6mm 365mW of pulsed 785nm / 200mW of CW 785nm AND 330mW pulsed 661nm / 100mW CW 661nm. In one diode...

If you could fire them both up at the same time you'd have a wicked red burner. I doubt hat is possible though.

Still, if it pulses at 330, it might go higher than an LPC-826?

There are two similar red/irs in 5.15mm packages too, I assume that depends on which model you get?

Well folks I was holding out that It may come today. A lot of times newegg is a one day delivery for me but it looks like Monday. Looks like something happened. It says "CANCELLED DEPARTURE". Not sure what that means as I have not seen it before.:(

I've been dealing with the Chinese for other product quotes lately and I was told that they had a holiday sometime around now but they would be resuming everything soon
