I have a strong feeling a 12x can easily churn out 550mw. What would be amazing is if they were capable of much more, and we just didnt know it yet. If in the end we discover a 12x can reliably sit at 650-700mw, that would be OuTsTaNdInG!

Yes, we all have been! But I'm just glad he's ok... it's one thing to be in the hospital.. but he was there for a long time it seems. It must've been pretty serious! It's funny to see that he's jumping off the hospital bed and getting right back to lasing! Now THAT's dedication!

Sorry guys for the horrible delay. :undecided:
As some of you know, i was in a hospital. Wasn't fun. I guess i should have taken better care of my health and slept a few nights as well...
Now that i'm back and feeling normal again, i did some work and started the long anticipated Double Murder Experiment.
Here are some photos of the new Torture Chamber during tuning (making sure the ON-time is 1 minute):
This is the fully assembled torture chamber, only difference from running is, that the power line goes to a LED.
The purpose of this is that i can time the cycler with a stop watch and adjust the pot, till the ON-Time is preciselly 1 minute.
Other things you can see in the photo... The second driver is my standard boost driver. I somehow killed three buck-boost drivers trying to make them work, no luck. Then i remembered i had some boost-only drivers made.
As you can see it's only a fraction of the size of the buck-boost version. The other one is the first i ever made of this type, still works beautifully.
Next up, some photos of the torture chamber in actuon, killing our two diodes.

Seeing how i'm torturing two diodes at once, perhaps a single thread would be more appropriate, instead of posting all the photos and graphs twice.
Do i make a new thread for the Double Murder Experiment? This was the fundraiser thread anyway...
Otherwise, as you may have noticed on the photos, the currents were set to:
- 393mA for the 12x diode
- 348mA for the 8x diode
I calculated everything for preciselly 390mA and 345mA, but the resistors have a 1% error. These are usually considered high precision resistors, but they result in small errors like that.
Normally i spend hours when trying to set drivers to preciselly a certain current. Calculations don't help and resistors this low can't be measured without special equipment i'd have to make, cos i can't afford it.
So setting the current goes partially by calculation and then by feeling, till it's spot on.
In this case i didn't want to waste any more time, besides 3mA more doesn't really influence anything, so i decided these will be the currents to torture the diodes at. They are close enough to what the most desired currents were, and they won't change at any time.
Since we know Ith doesn't chanbge, replotting will be done by letting the diodes cool off to starting temperature, measuring the top power and drawing a straight line from Ith to the current being used for torture. This way a lot of time can be saved, and the torture can proceed much faster.
I will be posting updates every day on the progress of both diodes. With the replotting pauses, i hope this will make for 10-11 hours of ON-Time per day.
A photo of the Torture Chamber doing it's job:
I took multiple pictures over time, this one was the least blurry.
The two counters are tracking the progress perfectly, if one should stay behind, it will mean that diode gave up.
One last thing. The 8x diode already has a few hours on it, from before i went to the hospital. Since it's not much, i will let the 12x catch up now, so i can do the replotting together.
Anyway, this is it for now, i'm leaving them ON till they reach 600 cycles each for the first replot.
