Wow!
Just had to go over 600mW's huh Dave!
So that's not the first 8X that you had in that host at 512mW's correct? Or is it even the same host?
It's a 12X diode right?
Just double checking because you mentioned the 3405 with DDL, so I figured it was the driver and host/heatsink combo that you got from me for your first 8X...

The BDR-205 is the 12X.

It is the same host/DDL/heat sink that you built for me.

I have pushed other 8X's over 500mW and others members had done so as well. I saw no more need for the 512mW 8X.

Mike and I talked a little about pushing these while IgorT was laid up. After Yobresal pushed an 8X up to <400mA (for a limited time), I thought, "Why not?"

We'll see how long it will last at 425mA

I burned the wall (white paint) across the room while focusing it

Peace,
dave

Oh yes... I see that now. That you already listed the diode as well.

So what happened to the 512mW 8X? Saving it? Or did it go to LED land...

Anyway man, that is awesome!

It is still doing fine. It was still doing 507mW when I pulled it. I rebuilt it into a "working" 8X @ 300mA. It is doing 410mW and will be used regularly.

Peace,
dave

Man that's a high efficiency 8X...

Well at least compared to my 8X, which is 375mW's at 292mA's. I guess mine is a low efficiency one... Still plenty HOT though! :)

Much happier with my 12X! (465mW's @ 320mA's)

You always seem to get the extra nice diodes Dave! Well, you deserve it... Your always pushing the envelope!

I was wondering the same thing, because drlava has not updated his site to say anything about a V6 FlexDrive yet...

But I have some FlexDrives on the way to me, so I will see if they are a new version soon enough...

Dave -- You just had to beat me to 600 mW --- You Rat !!!! I'm trying to make time to build my 12 X into a housing and run it up.
I now have a high point reference posted from your testing. Thanks.

Looks like I may need to sacrifice my 8x to see what it hits @ 425mA.

but i'm scared !!! :)

Hey Jayrob, expect an order for a 405-g-1 lens from me soon... I just filed my taxes and I'm getting a nice return so a 12x will be in my future. Does anyone know what the forward voltage of the 12x diode is at high currents (<320mw)? I want to use a lava driver but i also want to make sure the diode doesn't pull the driver out of spec as far as voltage is concerned.

I'm using a FlexDrive with my 12X at 320mA's and a 3 volt supply... (2 X AA Energizer e2 lithium primaries)

It is very stable at 465mW's (405-G-1), so the FlexDrive is doing just fine!

That said, there could be some differences in efficiency comparing different diodes. But I would guess that 320mA's is fine with a Flexdrive.

Just let me know when your ready for the lens!

I know of several 8X's with a flexdrive running at 320mA W/O any problems.

Well the highest i got @440mA is 605mw on my 8x , running a flex v4 . Lets see how long it lasts..

long live the king @ 620mw

edited post with V4 flex

I do have to say that it is noticeably brighter at 605mw than it was at 540mw

i bumped it from 410mA to 440mA.

what ive noticed is that , this diode in particular goes up 2 mw for every mA, approximately.

I think my 12x is an 8x :yabbmad:

200 ma - 226 mW
300 ma - 365
400 ma - 500
460 ma - 560
500 ma - 620
I'm not too impressed with this diode.

HMike

My power increase per mA ranges from 1.7 to 0.7 -- Threshold is 40 mA.
