Got another 12X Lite On sled yesterday from Rayfoss. Extracted the diode and decided to run another bench test before I found a home for it. This diode surprised me. It seems to be much less efficient. It runs at a higher voltage and lower output. I guess there is some variation in efficiency from diode to diode. The test was done giving 60 seconds between readings. I did also go back and run the test @ 100mA intervals after an hour.

Did this sled have "SF-BW512L " printed on the circuit?

or

Did it have "PCMK-M1X" printed on it

It looks like we have two different sleds (or at least two different runs) here. The diodes could be different

That is a great question. I was unaware that there were two sleds for this drive. I have the sled at the house and will check tonight when I get off work.:beer:

I just became aware of the numbering/model number difference today. I just got one with "PCMK-M1X" printed on it instead of the SF-BW number.

Did it come from Rayfoss? That is where I got the two sleds that I have harvested these diodes from.

I guess it's just a given that the numbers are using a 405-G-1?

DTR: What about your first 453 mA setting? And what's the P.O. relevant to the new 540 and 580 mA?

I set the original black 18650 to 580mA after the bench test and It puts out 783mW. I have also moved it to a MXDL host.

I also have a SS C3 Jayrob kit with the new diode powered by a microboost that is set to 560mA and puts out 736mW. REVIEW

Single mode. From what I have read multimode diodes would not work for an optical drive.

Wow, that's pretty impressive. If it's possible for 1 W 405 nm lasers to be single-mode, then high-powered (>1 W) single-mode 445 nm lasers may not be too far off!

By the way, it seems that my prediction wasn't too far off!

September 2010 - class IV violet lasers are becoming common

Violet lasers first broke the 500 mW barrier in late 2009. Due to the development of more powerful diodes, class IV violet lasers are becoming very common. However, most of them are DIY lasers built by hobbyists; it will be some time before companies start mass-producing them.
