Sorry if some one has asked this but,
how much brighter are these than the GGW-H20L
Could we get some side by side shots of it next them or just a good guess/estimate.

You've been around long enough to know the futility of trying to compare "brightness" in 405nm lasers.

Trying to compare "brightness" even in green is pretty useless. Trying to compare "brightness" in violets, has almost no value at all.

okay maybe brightness was not the word i was looking for.
beam visibility?
EX:
if i was to upgrade my GGW-H20L to the 12x in my scanner would i get noticeable difference?
i am running 50mw green, 350mw red 180mw violet.
i wanted to buy a 12x(run it at around 400mw)
but heard that past the phr into the other lasers there is not much of a difference.
I am not interested in burning things like some, just a better scanner.

If you want visibility, get a 473nm laser. 405nm was never meant for scanner applications. Can they be used in scanners? Of course, but if you want brightness then dump BR diodes.

well i know but its a whole heck of money to spent i think to get a 473 not to mention the compact size of my scanner would not allow a the 473 to fit.
I was planning on adding in a small 5mw green laser with the blue to give it near the same color. or once i convert the system over to analog make sure there is always a bit of the green with my blu. i was hopping the new ones would give me a much better mixing ratio.

A 12X is not much less of an investment considering it's visibility. 12X diodes are certainly more compact, but a little 50mw or 100mw 473 doesn't have to take up much space at all!
Scanners can only be SO compact. ;)

Try mixing green and blue if you like, and let it be known how it turns out! I've not yet seen this done before.

i have been looking far and wide for a nice 473 but the lowest price i seem to find is 430$ where as these are 189$ and with a nice cheap green mixed in i thought i could make a somewhat blue. just i don't recall seeing any comparison beam shots.

As noted in some reviews of 473 nM portables, they tend to be very temperature sensitive and don't like long run times. This is why 473 labbies tend to be bigger -- they have TEC control. I have reviewed 2 BLUE portables and neither like to be too warm.

I know you aren't asking me, but if I may just add some input.. I believe it is simply the nature of DPSS systems... particularly the inefficient ones. Then again, build quality can affect just about anything.

It's because they generate a lot of heat. Hand helds generally do not have active cooling like a good labby would.

The above answers are correct. Read the comments made to my Wicked Laser BLUE review. The temperature considerations for DPSS BLUE are well covered there. These BLUE 473's tend to be touchy when temperature is involved. It's not the quality but the science in them.
Look for posts by Aryntha about his similar experiences. He makes good comments about this DPSS science.

My friends it is with great sadness that I must inform you of the death of the Chrome mini at 830mW. It was this afternoon while I was cleaning the window and lens. As I was using the laser I noticed the laser was getting hot. It doesn't usually get hot. It seemed to even stay hot after that laser was shut off. I went to turn it on once more to see if I had done a good job with the lens cleaning and all that remained was a small dim light. May she rest in pieces...until the next victim arrives from newegg.
