Sorry guys that I haven't been able to post an update yet. I checked the diode and it still plotted exactly the same. That was all I had time to do as of yet. I hope to make it to the shop tomorrow to check the pot setting on the host and see where it got bumped to. Daguin, the original setting on the pot was at ~400mA, which is where the first 626mW figure arrived from.

When I was on my drive near the suburbs, I ran inside Comp USA and asked for another BDR-205 from the warehouse. Out of stock. I'll have to order another one. I'm having too much fun with these diodes.

It's still cheaper than heroin ;)

Peace,

And probably just about as addicting!

Side point: Exerd, Susie has the larger green modules on her new site now...

First light from my 12X diode:
481mW
405-G-1 lens (Larry's)
V5 Flex @ 300mA
4.2V Sanyo LiIon 18650
Awesome Flaminpyro brass heatsink

Bad. Ass.

WOW 481 mW at 300 mA is a great diode !! Start graphing it and you might hit 600 mW. Go carefully and watch the curve.
Mine only gave me ~ 380 mW at that current.

HMike

There seems to be two distinct lines of efficiency forming on Franco's graph. We may be dealing with two different diodes here. Sadly, I'm in that lower line .....

I know... I hope I didn't accidentally bump the potentiometer!

I'll have to get a power supply and maybe another diode too. ATM I don't have an reliable way to test this diode...

You guys weren't kidding about how HOT these things are... I had to test it on my skin... Ouch!

Yeah... bad idea. lol

Even tiny on/off blips on the back of the hand can sting 20 seconds later...

I accidently bumped mine to 1.04 WATTS for a couple seconds. Talk about OWCH on the skin.......
Recheck your work so Franco can add your data. Measuring (and posting) several points is more telling about the diode.

Yes I read that in the other thread... that's a TON of violet!

Just double checked. 300mA.
Gotta get back to work... can't wait to get home and play!

To add you in the datasheet, I just need a confirmation about the diode (BDR-205BK?), the host and the lens you have used (if you have used a Larry's lens, it's identified as LarryDFW). :yh:

Yes it is a BDR-205 diode with the LarryDFW lens. I think the "BK" designation is not related to any differences in the drive, only the color -- am I correct?

BK = black faceplate

Peace,
