wow ouch, sounds like this "magic uber diode" isn't so magically high powered after all

i would contact him immediately about the problem, sounds like you've got a good case of dead diode syndrome

I had a bad feeling from the very start of this thread. It just didn't add up.

133mw then goes down and stays at 120 to 124mw it runs at 210ma

210mA is what sounded super fishy to me. We are now getting 200+mW from the 6x diodes at under 200mA. It just seems to me that an even stronger diode would have better numbers for such a high current.

Also, I didn't liked how he bashed the 6x diodes.... Like they were tainted somehow because we didn't get them direct from the manufacturer. My 6x is my baby... ;D

Oh man.. He sold you an overdriven PHR-803T diode? He was always acting in the classic con-man style. I knew this wouldn't turn out good.

I would be surprised, if he even answered your email.. You should request your money back or open a PayPal dispute. Or do a chargeback if you can.

That sucks dude, he has a high feedback count on ebay so threaten to report him, but I supose $800 is better than a good ebay counter. It did look realy fishy, lets hope he refunds it. Are we gona report this guy as a scammer?

I hope I didn't get taken for a ride. He has really excellent feedback on eBay, so it seemed pretty safe at the time. Maybe it just got damaged in shipping or something.

A blu-ray isn't likely to get damaged in shipping. Blu-rays doesn't have any crystals and carefully aligned optics to get knocked out of place and if everything was soldered properly it should easily withstand a hard pump in shipping. You can also look at the package for any signs of damage. If the package looks like it was ran over with a truck that might be your problem.

The most likely scenario is that you simply got scammed out of $700 and he sent you an overdriven laser worth $200max.

This guy was posting in another thread, that he will make and sell a 105mW Blue Ray, and i asked him if 105mW isn't done with overdriven HD-DVD diodes.. Then he started this thread.

He was always acting in the typical scammer fashion. That secrecy of his was very telling. And he obviously used a triple element glass AixiZ lens for this laser, which means he had to push it much higher to reach 120mW, than he would with a clear acrylic, because that lens is AR coated for reds.. If he used a clear acrylic, he might have gotten away with 120mW.

Back then no one knew 120mW was possible to reach with a HD-DVD diode, but i remember him posting in the HD-DVD thread, that he got those diodes, shortly before starting all this.


The fact, that he has a good feedback, doesn't mean much, other than he obviously managed to get away with it so far. You should try to get your entire money back. Not just a new diode. You can get the same laser for under $200, except that it won't be overdriven..

Agreed. The first thing to do is take it apart and if you find a 803T diode it's time for a paypal dispute for scamming.

Everyone should have a 100k resistor or near across the LD for SURGE protection!

Well, several people did voice their suspicions, but it didn't help much.
