I myself love lasers and i am sure everyone on this site loves them to but I could never really come up with a good reason to spend hundreds of dollars on lasers. People tell I am wasting my money and say even though you can burn things with it what's that good for I mean lighter would do a better job burning things then a 500mw laser and a lighter only cost 1$ the laser on the other hand 100$ or more. Maybe the minds of over 200 people can answer my question. So what are lasers really good for that makes spending so much money on them worth every penny. :D

If you need to ask the question then you don't need a Laser.

Do a little searching on the Forum and you'll find some Threads
that have already pondered the same questions... and the answers
given...

Why do you want a nice car? A jalope will get you to where you need to go.

Why do people fly first class? (Well, mostly because they are better off than I am, and can afford it.)

Why do you want to have caviar, a nice bottle of wine, some aged cheeses, and the occasional lobster?

Why do women need so many shoes?

Why do people go skydiving, skying, hunting?

All of these, are hobbies, and desires. Ultimately, my answer is, because I LIKE IT, and if someone doesn't. That's their problem.

I always liked lasers and they made a great addition to my Recurve Bow and Katana Sword collection :)

Lol. Scrolling down, I was thinking "a laser-sighted bow, I can visualize that, but not a laser-sighted sword..."

I do have mounts for a flashlight for my bow, the sh-032 would fit :p If you aligned the laser along the blade, it would be pretty sick, kinda like the anime where they shoot a beam from the sword, blind the enemy, then follow through with a strike :p Maybe ill buy a Module or 2 and get creative with it :p Dual laser katana blade :p

make a spiro or show them some lumia-
add their fav music and forget burning stuff-

to many its looks even dumber that most everything else that laser can do. You are much better off leaving that out.

I ask them why collect coins or stamps or butterflies- if you are looking for validation you will be disappointed.
Attend a LEM if you want to be around folks the 'speak' laser.

Clearly lasers are now a more significant invention than Edison's light bulb (soon to be discontinued)
New uses are found almost DAILY- they are EVERYWHERE and we LIKE them!

and they are PURDY too!

Lol guys thanks for posting. What I am saying is other then burning things with a laser or looking at the amazing beam what else can I do with it. ( practical use guys like at home not at a doctors office ) When I ask people if they would like to buy a 2w 445nm blue laser they say what's it good for. I just bought a amazing torch off eBay and I can tell you it burns way better then my lasers and only cost me 8$ my 2w blue with out a host can cost 110$ easy. AND I AM NOT SAYIN LASER ARE A WASTE OF MONEY, THEY ARE SO COOL!!!!! And I was just about to get my first 1w 635nm red laser until I found out how much it would cost just for parts, WITHOUT HOST 200$ . Then I got thinking why am I doin this I mean really why? So much money I put in to lasers and what am I gettin out of it. It's not like you can bring the 2w blue laser to the airport. ( found out the hard way ;( ) I just want a reason aside from hobbies what is a laser good for?

Astronomy, pointing things, it's simple plain dumb fun. Pointing the beam to see how far it goes, how much it can burn. Just something to bring you away from the stress of life and have a little sci-fi fun :p

And by the way you can get a 1W 445nm for around 100$. (completed)

Also, people sometiems use these to kill pests inside aquariums!

Lasers: TOYS FOR ADULTS! :) When you were a kid those race cars or figurines you got were the best things ever, but look back and think; what was the actual use of those hundreds of dollars spent on toys each birthday and christmas? To make you happy of course :)

For me they are just plain eye candy. Finding new ways to alter the beams is fun and I use my 445 to etch things. Wood, plastic, leather. Getting really good at it. With a simple setup I could make a computerised rig to cut patterns and add custom work by hand... :)
