Thanks for the +rep! I try to be friendly :). Don't worry about me asking needless questions - I used to admin on several huge forums, so I know how annoying it is when people don't bother to search. Still, sometimes there are things that are difficult to find even if you use search. Just out of curiosity - what do newcomers have to argue about?

Also - not to self promote but if anyone ever needs a banner or signature made and wants to see some samples of my work, feel free to ask - will work for lasers :eg:!

I might open a sig shop here if people are interested in getting some signatures designed (sigs would probably be free, but donations to paypal would be nice!)

Welcome to LPF!

For now with only a 50mw green, you should be fine without goggles as long as you are being very careful, but once you get into the higher powered lasers and burning as you probably will like the rest of have, then you are definately going to have to get yourself a nice pair of goggles.

Enjoy your stay here, and stay safe!

Read a thread called "hello people" in the general section. You will understand xD

There have been MANY competitions here on the forum promoted by companies asking us to make banners for them.

Hopefully you'll be able to participate in the next one (Niko is really good at it xD)

Watch the CNI one that is at the top of the page. That is the one that Niko made and won the competition with. Obviously though this can vary from person to person, so ask whoever you are designing for.

Oops, you kinda beat me to it.

Thanks for the feedback!

*edit* Sorry for moving this part of the post around

I just looked at the hello people thread and to be fair, the first post he got in response to his question WAS a bit antagonistic. I probably would not have been particularly happy either to be treated that way in response to what I perceived as a valid set of questions. I think the responsibilities fall equally on older and newer members - while newbies need to make sure that they read up on the rules and don't ask needless questions, forum veterans should make an effort to be understanding and helpful, not just criticize immediately - that's how I've run things before. Patience is important, even if it's annoying to get 5000 questions about green lasers every day. You can point out that the information is easily already available without conveying hostility. Even if Lasersbee has 99 rep and 5000 posts and is an extremely helpful contributor, that doesn't mean that he can treat people with sarcasm and still expect them to stay positive. (not specifically chewing him out here or anything, maybe he had an off day?)

Things have been quite heated recently because of a long battle to get rid of a member who lied, stole and scammed. He is permanently banned now but this thing was pretty serious and had some people, including me, considering leaving the forum. That may have brought a slightly more aggressive tone to Jerry's post.

Luckily we can now resume to loving lasers and being a peaceful, friendly community :)
The "hello people" thread seems to have calmed down now too..

Stay here for some months and you will understand. I can ensure you EVERY of his questions could have been answered by just looking at the FAQS, or making a quick search on the forum...

He was even asking what IR was. You can get it's meaning by just searching "IR" on wikipedia, google or any acronym searcher.

Really, maybe you thing the setof questions were valid because you in fact are new, but I ensure you they are not.

And the worst is that he ensures he have tried to find the answers hisself and he has not find anything. I invite you (dopamine) to search on google for "IR". Come on...

I suppose the questions may not have been good ones, but I still think that they could have been addressed in a less aggressive manner - either way it was probably a misunderstanding and seems to have blown over, so it looks like things will be fine :).
