Welcome to the forum

A quick tip: "burnin shit" gets boring very quickly. Getting some optics and building small projects such as a spiro will greatly increase the number of things you can do with your laser. Also, GET GOGGLES! If you are burning things up close or shining the laser anywhere which poses a risk of even a weak reflection hitting you, you need to have proper goggles to protect your eyes.

Welcome to the forum.
A good laser to start out with is the O-like Dilda ($45) 650nm (red) 200 mW.
This is the cheapest way to get "introduced' to burning lasers.
From there, you can work your way up to different colors and higher powers.
You have an advantage, living in Canada.
No laws limiting the power you can import.
In the US, it's <5mW, which would not burn anything.:cryyy:
Of course, they're ways around this, but you always risk your laser being confiscated by customs.:yabbmad:
Have fun and as others have mentioned ,get some safety goggles.

Welcome to the forum. Note that DX also accepts paypal and no problem shipping to Canada. O-like has better quality than DX on most items. Diffraction gratings are nice to have, o-like has them on their site. As far as mirrors go, if you can find some of that plastic mirror stock at a craft store, it can be cut with scissors, so you can make round mirrors for spiros. Lasers can do a lot more that just incinerate the fecal matter ...
