Dear friends, I just read this, because also I am a new member. Thanks for the suggested rules.

I want to post some of my thoughts to what I read in this tread, so please don´t take it too serious

To the vets: Yes, new members should not argue with you. But sometimes they maybe did not understand something in the right way, and then they may show some kind of disagreement. You should not be too touchy about their comments. Of course, the single new member is not important to this forum, nobody would miss them. But, I don´t know how to say, it could be good for everybody not to be too rude of them. Possibly their first impression after getted confronted may be "Oh, my god, they are....strange".

To the new members: The veterans don´t filter what they want to let you know, they just say it. If you read over the treads, you will get them known. If they think something is ****, then they say so. You should respect this. It´s like in your office or in your company - no need and no time to be unnecessarily friendly.:p

This is my 2 cent to this. If it is ****, just tell me....

If it's a close knit group like you say it is, definitely ask your question waving your Newbie flag. Absolutely mention that you've been reading the forum for a while, and feed their egos by telling them how much you've learned from them and that you're now asking for their help. I don't think you need to contribute to anything existing before posting a question if you approach it this way, andt this will be a good way of getting you into the group and making future postings a non-issue.
Me smells a TROLL.....

Eh. sometimes to kill time (I haven't been around lately due to real pressing family tragedy stuff) - i'll sort newest and answer legitimate newbie questions even if they aren't phrased quite right.

While yeah, search is important -- I've even had trouble finding posts that I *know* exist on LPF via search, so, it can be a bit daunting for sure, after muddling around for a few hours you just want to ask your question.

Some of it may be repetitive, sure. But honestly I'm really glad the crew didn't jump all over me when I asked my first question here. (About mode hopping on a PGL-III-A 473nm.) - Honestly it made all the difference in the world as far as me sticking around goes.

I probably could have figured it out through data mining. But sometimes, especially when you're frustrated, you just want a little guidance. To me, in a way, that folks would come HERE, *IS* ego feeding. We're LPF and we are a hell of a resource.

YMMV; I definitely am not saying 'feed' bad etiquette, not at all, but also, I always remember what it was like to be a noob. Always.

Re: Read First... LPF FORUM ETIQUETTE

Good posts, It's too bad the noobs will never read them when this is stikied. The word "sticky" must mean, DO NOT READ, in some wierd noobland :p

Anyway, at least I'll have a thread to refer some people to. Thanks!

It may not renew your hope for all of humanity, but there's at least one noob reading all the stickies. :D

LPF - you've put a lot of required reading on my plate.

Just joined, and I'm definitely a laser noob. I may have violated rule #3 at some point, but that was only because I had a question for the OP, who obviously didn't speak English as their first language and I wanted some clarification.

I look forward to being part of this community and watching it grow as I learn new things as well!
