Hi everyone!

Although I'm watching the forum more than year I belonged of the silent majority. Now it may be time to change ...

Ok, my name is Ondrej (Andrew), I live in Prague and my job is IT. Boring, right?

The lasers are interested in since 80' when I was attending elementary school. At that time I with my friends were trying to make my/our first laser - a ruby laser.
We had scheme from the popular science magazine only, but it did not matter to us. We were excited that we could produce strong light beam and proudly show it in school ... :)
As ruby crystal we used rod from mom's jewelry :shhh:, FPR made from cosmetic mirrors glued together with skewers and as a light source the Sun's rays focused by magnifier...
Did it work? No .... but interest has persisted. ;)

Regards from Prague
B.

Btw. excuse my 'easy' English, pls...

Vítej! Je skvělé, že sem přišel další Čech. Jsou zde ještě dva další Češi a jeden Slovák.

Welcome to you Ondrej.

Don't worry about the English too much. There are some here that have a hard time with it too and it's their native language !

If someone has trouble understanding they can just ask you to explain it for them.

Enjoy your time here !

Thanks to all for warm welcome :)

It's fine to see here czech and slovak laser enthusiastics either.
As well as you will find me in laserforum.cz, but it's in czech language only and more focused to the laser show.

Thanks and regards,
B.

Díky všem za vřelé přivítání :)

Je prima tu taky najít i CZ&SK laserové nadšence jako já.
Jinak, občas se vyskytuji i na laserforum.cz, ovšem to je zaměřeno spíš na lasershow.

Dík a zdraví,
B.

Nemluvím česky. Nicméně, díky internetu překladatelů, každý, kdo nemůže číst Česká teď si myslí, že ano.

Oh, and welcome to the forums!

Oh the joy of internet translators. English to Czech is pretty bad though. Anyway, thanks for the Czech forum link, gonna check it out.

I know, I re-translated it back several times and had to play with the wording a bit to get it close to correct.

Hah, I remember when someone was playing with translating back and forth Czech and Slovak (two very similar languages) the word "january"
(CZ)leden -> (SK)január -> (CZ)leda -> (SK)ďuro -> (CZ)Ďuro -> (finally settled here)
start ------> correct ----> strange --> pure wtf, that's a completely unrelated name!

So anyway, let's examine what you posted:
"Nemluvím česky. Nicméně, díky internetu překladatelů, každý, kdo nemůže číst Česká teď si myslí, že ano."
  • Nemluvím česky. - Correct
  • Nicméně, díky internetu překladatelů - should be díky internetovým překladatelům - the declension is messed up, since it's impossible for the autotranslator to guess it from an English phrase.
  • každý, kdo nemůže číst Česká - should be Češtinu - again, not translator's fault, since Czech (adjective) and Czech (noun for the language) are written the same in English.
  • teď si myslí, že ano. - not sure what you meant - "now thinks, that he/she can." Anyway, should be si teď - finally a translator fail

Oh and, I kept laughing for a good 10 minutes when I saw your avatar. :san:

I love how it works! Haha, the end was supposed to be "now thinks I can (speak Czech)."

And everyone loves my avatar. I think I've gotten +Rep for it alone twice just because it's funny, lol. Seems kinda cheap when I know there's people out there who obsess over getting +Rep and try to do so with every post.

I got once repped for a quote in my signature: The main Arctic defect is that it is manufactured by WL. That was back when they were new and there was a lot of 13yr old newbies drawn here by it and asking (stupid) questions over and over.

"now thinks I can (speak Czech)." should be: "si teď myslí, že já mohu." - Once again, pure translator fail.

May be, but i think we all will speak in English before... Ah oops!... speak in Chinesse, of course! ;) ;)

But so far electronic Mr. Kaplan is still sitting inside translator and translating and translating... (did you ever read L.Rosten's book 'The Education of Hyman Kaplan'? If no, it's about that and funny... I can recommend.)

Regards,
B.
