Haha, I'm joking guys we don't really say howdy in Austin, Texas. Well, just joined the forum cuz everyone seems really cool and I really want to get to know you guys. I'm in 6th grade and kind of new to lasers. I got my first green 5mw 532nm from Dealextreme on November. I got my first Blu - Ray from Ebay (which was really dumb) and now I'm going to get a WL Executive Pro 20mw. Yeah, I'm more of a collecter. I really enjoy lasers and well, that's it guys.

Howdy back at ya'son. WELCOME -THIS is the place you were looking for. We have a lot of young members and you could someday be our next Daguin.
Carefully read thru all the Stickies-Make the search buttons your new best friend and please take laser safety very seriously. People doing dumb things with lasers has had a bad effect on this 'pastime'. NEVER let your lasers be 'played with' by anyone acting immaturely.

Feel free to join our little group 'Lone Star Lasers Fans'. There are some members in your area.----peace ...HAK

Oh and never take your lasers to school. Even at highschool most people arent mature enough to handle any laser.
Excellant advice Kev-:thanks:--I was going to add that...would be about the same as taking a BB gun to school for show and tell day--may not go bad but why take the chance.

As long as so many folks out there cannot even understand it all and ask 'why lasers?' That is just the way it is. Same with selling them(pointers) locally, as it will fall back on the seller when things go wrong. The only eye-safe laser is one that does not lase. And even then if thrown it could put someones eye out.:na: HZ

Welcome John. How's middle school treatin ya? If you want to make a great science project then this forum is the place for ideas.

Show off with a nice display of how changing the wavelength of light can change color. Wish I had this stuff when I was in 6th grade.

C-J I was thinking same thing--why not --lasers in science class- but no matter however a nice display -showing off his lasers can backfire--the theory of them OK but once his buddies see the actual lasers??--I see potential for probs.

Happened to me-- one guy decided he too can order and sell greenies--got into a bunch of trouble via his drunk friends at Mardi-Gras Galveston--and a neighbor thought whats the harm shinning them at car on his 'backroad''--cellphone call to the cops--they must investigate every call--did not see those coming!!---just sayin':undecided:.. better safe than sorry IMO==HZ

It's been awhile since I graduated so I'm not sure if they still have these, but I was thinking of shining on the screen for the projectors. But you're probably right... to expensive to buy them all goggles.

C_J--' to expensive to buy them all goggles' too true- and all this 'zero tolerance' and the terrorist hysteria has made schools much different today IMO--i gave a nephew a long time back a Swiss army knife for Xmas--he carried it to school and showed it to some friends who ran thier mouths and he got into a jam over it--then it was only a lecture- and they held the knife for him to carry home later- now- a whole different deal. Kids are getting into major trouble for having a plastic knife in their lunchbox..peace HZ

Aha, it's pretty fun. I was going to do a project on lasers but unfortunately, lasers aren't allowed on my school at ALL.
