Hey guys, I have a story to tell you. This story is a very tragic story, although it did happen and it is true.
Back in 2007, I discovered the amazing ability of lasers. I was very curious about lasers. Where I live (Sydney), There is a supermarket not too far from me; Parklea markets. Now in this toy section area, there used to be a Little Asian store that would sell low-powered lasers. These lasers were not strong, only 5mw, which is harmless. I was having fun every month buying a new laser, up until 2008 (Where the retard is shined the laser at the plane)
Since then, I have never been able to buy another laser from Parklea markets.
In 2010 (two years later) I realise that you can get more powerful lasers. Now, I never knew these existed. I mean, I Laser that could actually burn things??
Impossible! Right when I was getting fully excited and realise they existed, It was also around the time I found out that they will also illegal to import into Australia. This really bummed me out – for awhile. For about 6 months or so.
So one day about 4months ago I was on YouTube, just surfing around, And I saw one of kipkays' video about lasers. It was then found out that lasers under 1mw were legal, but I knew they were very weak. I was used to 5. But I never tried out a green one. So I bit the bullet, and bought a onemw laser, knowing it would be very weak. To my surprise, it wasn't that bad. I could see the beam in PitchBlack areas. But I wanted more, I wanted a more powerful laser that I could see that beam during More-lit areas. So I looked around, and went on deal extreme, Because apparently, they are very trust when comes to lasers.
I was so happy that A bare module was legal into Australia, and all I had to do was hook it to a power source. Nice and easy stuff. So I found this site, and found out how to do that. But now I am hearing that other people say they imported a full laser without getting caught, And the risk of getting caught is very rare, If you buy from Dragon lasers or another trusted website. This is the one I am looking at:
200mW 532nm Green Laser Module (3V 11.9mm) - Worldwide Free Shipping - DX
But the damnedest thing is sold out, and apparently deal doesn't resupply the stock. Can the hundred do the same thing as a 200? I know what different powers, can do, I've watched a video on YouTube by styropyro. What can a 200 do that a 100 can't and vice versa?
So here is my question:
Should I try and import a full laser, with taking the risk, or just buy a 100mw that is in stock? I would try other sites, but I do not want to spend any more than $60
If you've actually took the time to read all of this , I extremely appreciate it. If you have a solution please contact me, I am in need of dire help. I really want to pursue my hobby in lasers. Please help me out, any suggestions?

Importing a complete laser pointer over 1mW is always a gamble.

Some have gotten away with by describing them as torches or something on the customs forms, but a few members here have had lasers confiscated (just search the forums).

I wouldn't do it, I only import parts or lab lasers. But its up to you if you want to risk it or not!

It is illegal to import >1mW Lasers into Australia.
If you take the risk... You risk getting your Laser
confiscated and loosing the $$$ you paid for it.

It is that simple... The Choice/Risk is yours alone.

EDIT
Updated to reflect accuracy.
Thanks Things... I had a brain fart...

Its legal to import 1mw and modules. I think i am going to stick with modules.I really want a 200mw for under 60, dx has one but sold out, I think I'm gonna buy the 100mw one.
Is there any other good place where I can buy lasers for under 60?

You would be best off buying parts and making a laser. The more parts the laser is in the better of a chance that you would get it. I would even suggest the best method would for you to go after making a 445nm laser and get it piece by piece. I would be blown away if you had something taken if you bought it in each individual part. If you have soldering experience this is the route I would suggest.

Blue diodes aren't quite the same as green. You will need to build everything. I suggest searching around for building lasers with an M140 diode. I will be doing a tutorial of a generic build coming up soon using my newest build as soon as I get all the parts in.

What about just buying a JAD kit and ordering the diode seperate? surely they wouldnt have grounds to confiscate that if it has no diode.

Sounds like another i just want to burn stuff without safety glasses thread.

You should take the time and learn how to build them.

I know how to build them. Im just lazy and I already have saftey goggles. I'm looking for a powerfull laser that isnt that expensive.

If you don't want to build it from scratch Yobresal can hook you up. He is on backorder for a bit but I would hit him up in a few days and see. I suggest you grab one of his JAD(Just Add Diode) kits and toss in a diode from DTR. First link is Yob's thread and the second is DTR's website.

If you want to make it yourself, I suggest you take some time to read around for a while before you attempt it. I would be happy to clarify a few things for you as long as you do your own research as well.

You should read over the sale thread a little more closely because it looks like you missed some information. Yobresal is in Napa California.
