Hi everyone in this lovely forum

I am Aasim from Oman which is in Middle East.
I im laser lover since childhood, for me i was inspired by sci-fi movies cartoon alot specially with lasers weapons.
It was very rare to see a laser in that age (early 90s) but i managed to steal red laser very low mW one from my father and i enjoyed playing with it poiting in things my cat and annoying workers around the area where i live. I still i remember i got a first slap because of laser by my father because neighbors complain that i was pointing it to there eyes. Oh my god i was really crazy that days.

My love for a lasers then became later difficult relation, country rules for lasers is BANNED. Its prohibited to sell laser pointer and also prohibited to buy and use lasers. Unless if you have realtion with customs or you smuggle it to get it in the country.

I have bought different lasers by smuggled or by shipping where i was lucky it slept off from customs check. But i cant do that anymore they now scanning everything.

The lasers i had was low powered lasers and that never fill my thrust for monster lasers. I searched over the Internet and immediately i spot this forum and started to read a lot to know more about this technology. I learned a lot here, there are many informative topics and knowledge members. I loved the fact everyone can DIY a laser and no need to buy what market offer for us. One of the advantages of DIY i can build a laser in my strict country with ease. Simply because importing laser diodes is legal since its consider a part for DVD-ROM/RW and the host is also legal because its a torch. If you combine the two you have a laser.

My first attempt to build it was successful, i bought the laser diode kit from DTR (million thanks for your support) and custom built host by Ehgemus (the artists of hosts)
Both passed the customs and easily assembled the laser. And now i am having the powerful laser 445nm 3.5W.

This is a start and more builds will come and more colorful laser i will have.

Sorry i make the introduction very long but i was happy while sharing with ppl having same interest. We are lasers addictors :eg:

Hi Aasim,

Welcome! Wow 3.5W - is it not scary to use such a powerful laser?

I see you used it in your car through the window, aren't reflections a problem? Even when I have aimed my 13mW 532nm laser at a window it has reflected heavily and managed to almost hit me in the eye. I now avoid windows and have laser glasses too :)

You've also built your own - cool. How hard did you find your first laser build? It's something that interests me.

Have safe fun,
Chris

Thanks Chris

Yeah its heavy starter as 1st build and yeah its scary too i already burned my finger by mistake.

The pic in the car my laser wasnt pointed to the window, if you notice the door is opened and the beam is between the gap between the door or and car body. So dont worry i know the reflection thing.
And i should buy glasses soon i want to see the burning stuff in action.

The hard thing about it you dont want to screw it because its cost me over $400. Just applied basics for wiring and thats it. The laser diode kit and the host are pre wired (thanks for DTR and Ehgemus they save my time) so only soldering wires and you are good to go.
