Hello everyone,
I have been reading up on everything lasers for a while now and decided to finally join. A friend of mine from work is mildly into lasers and that's what got me started. Aside from the dog toy red laser my experience with lasing is zero. I only know what I have read on the forums about various DIY builds, reviews, etc. I do understand that lasers are dangerous and so I apply the same attitude towards them that I do with my firearms. I have recently purchased a 3.6W Dominator which will be arriving later today according to USPS. I have purchased a cheap 532nm locally in the mean time to fiddle around with. It is a Chinese laser that sells on ebay for 10 dollars. I considered taking it apart to learn more but I figured I'd wait until I have my other laser so I am not without something to play with. I want to get an LPM so I can test the power on my green laser. As I understand it most of the ebay lasers are overspec and full of IR. I was reading a thread earlier discussing the reasons for getting into lasers. Two major themes emerged: 1. POWER 2. WAVELENGTHS. I can say right now that I am all about wavelengths. I want to collect the spectrum. So far my favorite colors and primary collection interests are 556nm and 589nm. Too bad they are so expensive. I think my next down to earth purchases will be 405nm and 635nm. I also would like to build a laser but more learning is required. Another aspect of the laser hobby that I really like are the various types of hosts.
I just wanted to introduce myself and give everyone the heads up that I will be on the fringe of the forum until I have more to say.
