Hi all,

After hearing about the Arctic a few months ago and being amazed at the power these little diode lasers can produce I decided to take a look at the current state of laser technology. After searching the web for information I kept coming across this forum. So now here I am!

Over 20 years ago I was briefly involved in the laser lightshow biz, creating a full color projector and acquiring some expensive lasers with the help of a friend. I even created my own laser lightshow, full animation software (in MS QuickBasic, if you can believe it - hey it worked!). But the money just wasn't there for me and my career took a different path. I ended up selling my Krypton/Argon beast of a laser but kept my Argon (small frame). I still have the guts of the projector which I'm looking to revive now that diode and DPSS lasers are cheaper than the gas equivalent and modulation of diodes are much easier than AOMs.

Additionally, I did assist a friend in setting up his 800W CO2 cutting system and his YAG and small CO2 engraving systems.

So to sum it up, lasers ain't new to me.

I've finally received my Arctic and with the help of this forum, I've made this laser really "shine".

I hope to be contributing to the knowledge base of this forum and purchasing various hand held and labby lasers so I can reinvigorate my interest in this fascinating hobby. Additionally, I intend to build my own lasers sometime soon. The technology of the diode laser build is much simpler than fiddling with gas lasers 20+ years ago.

Looking forward to learning, sharing and having fun with you all.

Eric.
