Carl,

Have any pics of your 1W blue in addition to your 160mW red there?

The 1117 should be fine - if you get a smaller-size one then you might have a bit of trouble keeping it cool at high current, depending on how many volts you're dropping. The LM317(T) would be best in terms of flexibility, presuming you don't mind too much about efficiency.

I've yet to receive the 1117, The LM317T is used in the Chrome Torch Host below, Only problem is that the LM317T is a little too big to fit in, I've COD loads of LD's trying to get it in with limited success.

The 160ish mw is the chrome Torch in my Signature, and the 1w Blue is my Avatar Pic, I haven't yet got any decent pics of the 1w Blue, The host is a SKU 3405 5w Super Bright Torch Host found on DX. it's a great host.

I'll get some pics done and post for you to see.

Thanks for the interest.

Edit

Here are the pics of the 1w Blue

Hi again

Got the 1117, wow they are smaaaaall, LOL, When I get a peice of spare time i'll fit them and see how it goes.

Because of their smallness I think i'll need to add a heatsink to the regulator, anyone else used these with or without a heatsink.

What do you think of my sig pic, ain't she a beast. She's mine baby, been mine for a 12 month.

Any comments welcome

It looks a bit odd to me?
The lock appears to be from a double barrel shotgun, and the two cylinders under the barrel give the impression of gas operated and tubular magasine.

And yes, adding a heatsink to the regulator sounds like a good idea. The small sizes of chips are not good for more than 100mA, and that is on a regular board, not stuck inside a hot airless host. :D

Hi Toke

It's a PCP Air Rifle Calibre is .22 (5.56mm) that would explain the two cylinders below the barrel, It holds eight pellets (in this case 8x Bisley Magnum 20.4Grains), in an inline magazine.

Made in Korea for pest control in the main squares (Problematic monkeys stealing food stuffs from people so the Korean Gov had this made) .22 Rimfires were to powerful.

The action is simular to the Winchester Rifle of old. It is a great rifle. my only quibble is that it's rather heavy specially for me as I am of thin frame and a weaklin LOL.

Anyway back to the 1117's they are roughly 6mm wide, 4mm tall, it will be great if they work as they can provide 800MA.

Thanks Blord, Ask the pigeons to line up in rows of ten you'd take ten out with 1 pellet.

I took it out on Friday blowing glass bottles apart at 80ft or 26yrds away at that range I was aiming around 4 inches above, just above the bottles top. bottles were 7inches tall.

The explanation helps. :)
Looks like a great toy.
Does the might scope in the text mean that it could be used for night active pests?

(BTW: do you have any good pigeon recipes? :D)

The scopes that you see are Nightvision Scopes 4x Magnification, Infra Red Illumination, I have taken this setup out when the night sky is covered in cloud no light illumination at all, but yet I can still see, Where I live is close to an old railway line about 50 meters away in front of the house it's been converted to a cycle track no lighting, Pitch black during cloudy nights. To get an idea of what I see while looking through the scopes at night you've all seen the NVG Goggles the military use on night manourvers thats the image I get through mine, the only difference is that the Military sights are Gen3-4 where mine are Gen2+.

At the back of my house about 5 minutes walk I the enter an old Dissused colliery within a valley again no lighting plenty of rabbits around at night.

As for the pigeon menu, Pigeon Stew is nice as well as roast Pigeon.

I understand why you love it. :)
It sounds like a wonderful not just toy, but also tool.
Have you thought of building an IR-laser?

(The closest I get is my webcam and it's IR-diodes.)

Yes definately,

I had made an IR Laser for it, but that was early on, a short time after I got into lasers, Them things just scare the sh?t out of me, with the usual lasers (red, green, blue and so on) you can see the light, IR you see nothing, so i'll wait a while until the safety aspect is second nature then i'll make something in the range of a 500Mw IR I got the diodes ready to go.

Yeah this things (rifle) no toy, do a google on the 'Career 707 MKII' you'll see what I mean, its the Long Rifle type not the carbine. These things are capable of 80ftLb(109 Joules) in short a little slower than a 22 rimfire.

No I hadn't read that.

Thats an eye opener, Very impressive for the time. Never knew that Air Rifles were used by the military. The calibre is pretty imppresive too.

sleep time 1:10 AM got to take Kids to school today.

Thanks Toke

Update to the LM1117, just thought you guys would be interested, Had some time with these little guys managed to get one into an IR build.

They are very small, but can handle upto 800ma, the heatsink is self contained but it's very small.
