Hey all, I never properly introduced myself to the forum. Since I'm starting to become a more active user, I figure i probably should.

To start off, my name is David and I'm a 17 year old junior in high school from Maine. I run track and have been competing in state meets all throughout my track career. I've been plying guitar since I was 8, so that makes 9 years of it! In addition to lasers, I collect Zippos, flashlights, and knives. I'm not like one of those immature 13 year olds that has them "just 'cause they're awesome!!!111!!1!11!", instead I really enjoy collecting them because most I have contain sentimental value.

I've only been dabbling in lasers for about 10 months as of writing this post. After being in this hobby for a bit, I have grown so fond of coherent photons. It's kind of funny because most people don't really "get" lasers. Like, my friends and family are pretty supportive of the hobby. You know, anything to keep me out of trouble. But there are people I meet that ask about it and just say "Why? What's the use". But I notice people like that (almost always) have one or more of these 3 distinct qualities.

1.) They have no hobbies
2.) They are generally boring people
3.) They don't appreciate the fact that such a small thing creates such a magnificent scientific breakthrough! Lasers are nothing new, but every time I see a laser in use, I can't help but enjoy it!

At first when I started the laser hobby I was a pretty impatient builder. I wanted results immediately. Typical, really, of most high school students. But now as I'm starting to become a more confident builder, I realize its all about patience. It saves you money and frustration to be careful.

To members of the forum I will try my best to help out and not be a nuisance. If newcomers reading this need some help, I'd love to try and be of assistance.

This next part is just some narcissistic stats about my "track record"

Red Lasers in operation: 9 (7 built, 2 purchased)
Violet Lasers in operation: 7 (5 built, 2 purchased
Green Lasers in operation: 4 (all purchased)
Blue Lasers in operation: None... yet

Here are my upcoming planned builds.
405nm 135mA PHR-805 Aluminum Project Box (Just need a diode)
405nm 130mA PHR-805 Aurora C6 (Just need a diode and driver)
445nm 466mA M140 Chrome Pocket Mini (just need the diode)
650nm 200mA 16x Diode Black Leadlight (Just need the host)
650nm + 532nm Yellow Laser (Just need the 532nm module)

Also I'm attempting a DIY LPM soon. I'm just waiting on some parts :D

Sorry if this was really long, but I ramble a lot...

Welcome! Well, it feels odd saying welcome since you've been registered longer than I (not counting my four year hitaus), haha.

Good luck with all those builds! I'd like to get a mixed wavelength build going as well, but I can't really figure out an inexpensive way to properly mount optics and lasers/modules. Optical breadboards are $$$.

Welcome aboard! Don't forget to get some Laser Safety Glasses, and the search function here can be your best friend.

I actually purchased safety glasses before I ever bought any laser components. I have horrible vision naturally, so I figured I may as well prevent any further lessening of it. And my word if I had a nickel for everytime I used the search fiction, I'd be a rich man!
