Hi, I joined LPF in hopes to learn more about lasers. I am from USA, and I have always loved lasers. My name is PJ. I want to buy a 532nm 50mW laser. I was looking at lazerer, does anybody have good experiences with them? Or, is it better to buy a laser from a member here? I am looking to spend roughly 50 dollars, plus extra for the battery and charger. Does anybody have an idea of the cheapest, but best bang for your buck laser that outputs 50mW and is 532nm?

Thanks!

Rock on LPF!

Well, lazerer is a reputable company, you won't go wrong with it.

That said, you're better off buying a laser from someone here on the forum.

With a $50 budget you shouldn't have any trouble buying a 50mW laser. In fact you can get one for less.

I have a 50mW I don't really use, if you're interested I can take a couple of pictures tonight. It would be $40 shipped. If you need a battery I can throw one in for a few bucks.

For batteries, and charger, personally I find lighthound has good service and ships out very fast. There are plenty of options though.

You should also consider getting goggles. There are fairly cheap options that will work well at lower power levels.

Wow, sounds great Infinitus! So, you recommend buying batteries and a charger from lighthound.com? What kind of battery does your laser take? I am very interested in buying. Also, is it a 532nm? And, does the charger I am going to buy shut off if the battery is fully charged? Kind of like a smart charger.

Thanks buddy!

I have a Ultrafire WF-188 I would be willing to sell cheap.

EDIT: The WF-188 will charge 16340s and 18650s, and a lot more.

The laser takes 16340 batteries. It can take unprotected 18650 batteries with an extension tube, but I'm not sure I have one. I'll take a look tonight.

For chargers, they don't generally turn off altogether, but switch to a very very low trickle charge.

With Lithium ion batteries, it is best to never leave then unattended, check them with a multimeter, and to take them off when they turn green.

Personally I would go with this charger if I needed another one Link but you can definitely find that charger cheaper elsewhere.

For batteries these are the best: Link

I'll take a couple of pictures of the laser tonight, test it out a but, and post them here for you.

The 50mW is the one on the left. Don't mind the leg :p

Edit: The Ultrafire WF-188 would would well too.

Ok, just PM me when you have done that :p

And, Ill buy that battery from you if you have an extra. And, as for checking the batteries, how would I do that? I have one of these: Link But I doubt it works with 16340's

Not sure about that battery tester. These batteries fully charged are ~4.2v so I'm not sure the 3V lithium battery setting would tell you anything.

I highly recommend buying buying a multimeter at some point. You can find them relatively cheap, i've seen ones for ~$10-$15 for decent models.

I'll precharge a battery for you, so you can use the laser right away.

Ok, I will look into some chargers. Also, what charger do you recommend I can get for 10-15? And how long will the battery last in the laser? I am new to all of this.

Thanks a lot for helping me out.

It really depends on the current draw of the laser. You should have at least half an hour or so of use off of one charge though.

As far as chargers go, see what Jacob32123 wants for his, it's a decent model.

I can sell you one of these: Link for the same $18, and ship it all together, but the problem is, you would need some spacers to be able to charger shorter batteries, like the 16340 with it. Also just FYI with these cheaper chargers, it's generally a good idea to charger two batteries at a time.

I should also have some really cheapy single channel charger lying around. I don't use them, so would need to test, but if one works, I could throw it in for a bit more.

Let me see what I can do later tonight.

If you can hook me up with two batteries ill buy the charger with it. Then all I would need is a tester. How long does the average charge take?

Here is a list of what I have laying around that might interest you

WF-188 Charger. I don't think it will need a spacer, but if it does, I can find something. A small bolt works just fine.
Some lightly used unprotected 18650s. These are made by Sony IIRC.
A harbor freight digital voltmeter. 7 Function Multimeter

Make me offers on whatever interests you.

Hi Jacob, how cheap for that WF-188? And will I need a spacing tube for the Laser Infinitus is selling me for 16850's? What is a spacing tube? And, the multimeter. I will take that.

I will take the batteries and charger and multimeter. Whats the difference between 16850's and 16340's? I am only looking to spend up to 55 on this laser. 40 for the laser it self. and 15 for others.

EDIT: Infinitus, I was looking through your photoalbum on PB, it looks like the laser maxes at 40mW, is that true :(

18650s are bigger then 16340s (see: http://laserpointerforums.com/f67/liion-cell-sizing-chart-guide-73012.html) . IE said that the laser would take 18650s if he could find the extension tube, so we need to know if he has found that. A spacing tube makes the laser's battery compartment longer.

Make me an offer for the WF-188, how about $3 for the multimeter, and $2 per 18650 (I have 6), plus shipping.

One problem I just thought of, is my PayPal account is screwed up, so you would need to find another way to pay.

That's possible. I know I bought it as a 50mW, but I don't remember what it LPMed at. IIRC it was ~50mW. I went through a lot of lower powered lasers, so offhand without checking, I'm not sure.

I'll be in the office for another hour to hour and half, but will check the laser around 9pm EST, and let you know what I find. If it's not 50mW, I'll put it up for sale for whatever it actually is.
