Hello Laser Pointer Forums, I am new to the laser world and man is it awesome. So I plan on getting a kit for my very first laser, so I see all the parts I need in front of me without finding all the wrong materials the first time. Though I have done a lot of research and I know what I need now, just a little timid cause I really don't want to break anything but I'm sure I will.

But I have a serious question.
Now I don't know if there was a thread about this but if there is anyone who could lead me there it would be appreciated.

So I was wondering how is the Infrared Light carried by the Lasers? How much power does there have to be in the laser to eventually give off an Infrared light?

Basically I would like to know everything about how Infrared Light is in a laser, and if there are ways to prevent it, because I really don't want a laser that releases the Invisible Killer.

Thank you so much

There is no IR from any diode lasers unless the diodes is an IR diode.

Where you get IR leakage is only in low cost economy DPSS 532nm green lasers that do not have an IR filter.

You can get one of the 445nm blue laser kits and not worry about any IR.

Ahh thank you so much, that's actually the kit I was looking at! :D

The source/diode of certain colored lasers such as the green 532nm laser is actually an IR diode. Most of the IR is changed over to the visible 532nm wavelength but not all of the IR. Therefore IR is present coming out of the laser along with the visible beam. Most good quality lasers have an IR filter in it to stop the IR from being emitted.
Do realize that not all different colored/wave length lasers emit IR, just certain ones.
If you use the white search bar near the bottom of the page you will find detailed information about this process if you want.
Hope that helps, welcome to the forum

Only IR lasers or DPSS lasers emit IR, normal solid state lasers can not produce any IR. An IR laser specifically produces IR only, a DPSS laser uses an IR pump diode, usually an 808nm that goes through a crystal that is the actual lasing medium and outputs 1064nm and goes through an additional crystal and optics to create whatever wavelength, 532nm and several others that can't be done by direct diode.

and some extra info for you..

go to DTR laser shop for Diodes/Module/Lens/Complete laser module combo.

Lazeerer/Flamingpyro for drivers.

LarryDFW for Battery.

Survival laser for Host/Kit/Battery/Safety goggles/

Eudainmonium/ FlamingPyro for custom heat sink(aluminium/copper) (means you can

turn any flashlight into a laser host.

Jayrob for build Kit.

Sci-fi/thejoker and Sanwu/Podo for pre-built high quality laser(they get their stuff through custom no problem.(Sanwu beat sci-fi in term of delivery time becaus Joker have a lot of orders).

Ehgemus/Sinner for custom hosts.

Thank you thank you, i've seen quite a few of these guys in my searching which is great, glad to know they have a really good rep :D
