Hello to all you laser junkies ! I have been into lasers since way back in the late 1970s, when my parents took me to Family Day at Honeywell Corp, where they both worked. They had a red laser reflecting off mirrors on display, from that moment, i was hooked! It was the most stunning thing i had ever seen in my young life. I look forward to picking your brains for fun ideas on using lasers! Thanks for stopping bye! :)

Welcome, Vettech. My first encounter with a laser was back in 1965 when I saw a ruby laser that had been brought to our school to show its capabilities and to pop a huge blue balloon about 15 meters from the laser. Prior to this, I had read on the, then, new amazing device called a laser. I, too, got hooked for life, but my actual use back in the late 1970s and 1980s was to make holograms with the use of a He-Ne laser. That was a fine introduction you made with the story of your first laser seen personally. There is a lot of good information here and many good people who are willing to answer any question you might have along the way. ;)

Welcome, I grew up watching the laser show at Stone Mountain Park and remember being able to get close enough to almost touch the idle beam when I was young, through the ar coating on the projection house window was that emerald green rod of shining perfection, I suppose I have been hooked ever since although the laser show is not using tightly focused beams anymore, they terminate in a big floodlight spot now, but they used to be the most perfect looking beams.

That reminded me of a "Yes" concert I went around 1977. It was in Houston and they had an argon laser show where many hundreds of beams were aimed at the ceiling of the 20,000 or so indoor venue. Then they would move them quickly into the audience. It was a single line as it was the color of 488nm and the beam diameter as the beam hit you was about 4 inches in diameter. It was pretty good for those days.
