I want to build a burning laser

Hi I am new to the world of lasers but very interested in it. I was curious if someone could give me a list of components to build a burning laser pointer and possibly some direction. I am trying to build one at about 400mW and 405nm. I was thinking about getting a Pioneer 12x blu-ray BDR-205 Sled with 400mw - 500mW 405nm Laser Diode Inside but I'm not sure how well that would work because as I said, I'm new haha. I'm interested in this because I'm majoring in Mechanical Engineering and figured it would be a extremely cool project! Thanks for your help!

The parts you need are very straightforward, host, heatsink, lens, driver, diode, battery.

I have 12X diodes that have an option for an easy drop in style module with a driver already attached. Check out the last two items listed on this page. About 400mA would get you around 400mW with the three element lens option.:beer:
