I stumbled across this site specifically searching for a good laser forum with a for sale section. I was looking to get into the higher power aspect of the hobby at a reduced cost. So I found this site and within 2 days of looking over the for sale section an item got my attention and I quickly jumped on it.

http://laserpointerforums.com/f39/sold-450mw-ehgemus-8x-blu-ray-sold-47938.html

The seller seems to be a great guy and nice to deal with.

My history with lasers is not that exciting. Just mainly interested in them since watching star wars as a kid in the 80's. I bought a few weak surplus red lasers (diode type but requiring an external batter) in the 90s and then really got hooked and bought a custom 20mw green laser from ExtremeLasers in 2000 for $420 :). Ever since then I have only had a few cheap lasers because most of my money was being spent on my other hobbies (Computers, RC Helicopters, etc).

I am now back to putting money in my laser collecting hobby and learning as much as I can about them so that I can start building my own in kit form.

I bought four 405nm protection goggles from scopeguy20 (another great seller) for protection during my experiments with burning in my home makeshift lab area. Now to go over as many safety threads as I can to make sure I learn from others mistakes :).

Looking forward to reading the abundance of great technical knowledge on this forum. So far I am very impressed with the forum.

My professional career is in network security and administration.

If anyone is into RC Helicopters I am xStatiCa on RunRyder RC Helicopter - Home too.

... more to follow hopefully as I have time.

Thanks for the warm welcome everyone. It is amazing how many people are so familiar with this hobby. Back when I was getting into it originally it was hard for me to find much info for the hobby it seemed (early 90s)... Or I didn't know the right BBS systems to connect to :). I have already learned a lot of new info just reading the forums the past few days. I am amazed at how much time guys on this forum have dedicated to helping the community at large.

When I get time I will add pics of my lasers to my profile.

Hey guys, speaking of Florida. On March 6th, we'll be having the 8th Florida Laser Enthusiast Meeting (FLEM) in Tavares, FL. This is mostly a laser show thing, but all laser freaks are welcome!
Nice video! Unfortunately family life would keep my away from going to that. I spend too much time away from the family on Sundays with my RC Heli addiction as it is. Looking forward to more videos though.

Welcome to the forum!!! You'll find loads of useful info here to help you down the path of making your own lasers. (Sam's Laser FAQ is excellent, too.) As you have probably noticed, power levels have gone up greatly in the past few years. It's nice to get a new member on here who appreciates the need for eye safety and gets the goggles needed for the laser. Ehgemus makes excellent hosts and anything you get from scopeguy20 will be good.

Thanks. Yea. The laser FAQ I already read. Good info. I thought I knew enough about laser safety just by reading about lasers through the years but after reading the safety forum I am filling in a lot of details that I didn't know. Safety is important to me as I am sure it is to most here.

Btw... I don't appreciate you sending your cold weather down here ;).
