Hi guys, I've been lurking for a couple of days and decided to join. It's obvious I can learn a lot from interacting with members here.
My goal is to produce a laser show without spending huge sums of money. My first laser was a dragon lasers 95mW, 532nm viper series laser pointer. I have since discovered laser modules and purchased a 150mW, 405nm violet laser module with a glass lens. I love the violet colour of the bluray laser but it's lost against the blinding brilliance of the green, obviously. I'm considering buying another one and running both together, side by side for extra blue impact. Maybe a 200mW 405nm module? My next purchase will be a red. From the research I've done so far looks like 650nm is the way to go. I could do with some advice before I purchase. My main interest is brightness and beam coherence. I want a nice, tight, coherent, bright red laser. Any suggestions?

Welcome to the forum! Between the search function, stickies, and faq's, you will find all sorts of useful info here. An easy way to get a red is to get a dilda type laser from DX, o-like, or rayfoss. Do a little searching, these have been reviewed here, there are several styles of this laser, which is focusable and puts out about 200mW. This is a good, fairly cheap way to get a red laser. Don't forget about eye safety at these power levels. You will want goggles (maybe dragonlasers, etc.) for these more powerful lasers. Up close burning is uncomfortably bright, and a random reflection into an unprotected eye would be very harmful.

Thanks guys, very new to this hobby, looking forward to learning more!
My avatar - My first laser, 95mW Viper from dragon lasers. I built a laser spirograph with 3 DC motors, controlled by 3 pulse width modulation circuits, made by me. I have some electronics experience - studied 2 years, digital, analog and computer control. The blue is a bluray module, 405nm, 150mW (claimed, I have no way of testing this at present). I purchased this from ebay user geareb (korea) - very happy with it, but the housing is a bit shit in terms of fine focus adjustment. I recently built an improvised smoke machine which vapourises 50% glycerine solution in water - works very well. My avatar is a frame from a little video I made, the viper green through the spirograph and the blu-ray module just running as a singal static beam.

Nah, well yeah... I did post some crappy videos on youtube but nothing I'm proud of. Wait for my shiny new channel then I'll advertise it. So many incredible lasers and laser shows on this forum... puts me to shame... :)

I for one, would really like to see more about your spiro and its controller- I thought it was a lumia wheel photo!!

I have the same BR from geareb- only puts out about 70 mWs -but not a bad price(then) Moh sent me 5 PHRs 103 to 115 mWs with rkstr drivers attached for $20 each.
thnaks for the info--Hak
