Default Hi

Hi,
I am new to the laser comunity. I have alwasy wanted to have a high power laser and now I just got my entry level laser. Probably a joke of a laser for most of you but it is for sure a nice way to start for me.
I just got a chinese Ultrafire green laser power well I really don't know but it was sold for a 500mw ( so probably 50) anyhow I tested it out the window to see how far away i could spot the light and I have to say that I was pretty impressed with the result. I had a slight reflection of the light beam at about 3.7 Km.

Now I am hooked and will be purchasing a high power laser from some forum member soon.
Since I don't care particularely to burn things up, and my main object is to have the strongest visible beam, I asume ( from what I have read so far ) that the green laser should be the best option.
Now the question, what is a good power for a green laser? I know that blue lasers can go from 2W to 3W easy... but greens?

Welcome. This site is kinda like the NRA of laser owners. consider yourself a representative of the laser community, you are a responsible individual who would never point a laser at a plane, another living thing, especially its eyes, and never burn things without proper eye protection for all, right? of course you are. this forum has a plethora of information, try to find out something yourself before starting a thread.

Now about those greens. Greens are some of the most expensive lasers. a handheld of good quality with at least 500mW will cost quite a bit. I just sold my 700mW PL-E mechanical for $500, which was a very good price for the buyer, new it costs a few hundred more

First... No Laser is a joke if it lasses. Even a $1 Store Laser is
a Laser..

Second... It is not a good idea to shine a Laser out a Window.
You stand a good chance to have the Laser beam reflect back
into your eyes..

Default Re: Hi

Thanks for all the advise. I am still trying to understand how everything works.
It looks like building a laser isn't the most difficult thing in the world. Well I will have to read some more to understand what it's needed and how to do it in order to be able to make my first build ( I would really love that).
Anyhow just for general information, I live in Costa Rica, central america, and I am almost 38 years old.
I always liked lasers from the first time I saw one in 6th grade, I have never got a chance to own a really powerfull one, but hope to in the next few months.

I could also appreciate if someone can indicate me a DIY laser thread for dummies, what you need, why you need it and where to buy it sort of thread.

Thanks for all the info. I will be making my own research in the meantime.
