hey im new

Hi im very very new to lasers but have absolutely fell in love with them. I would really like it if there was an expert here that could help me out with learning even the basics. I want to make a laser that is handheld, no cords, just battery powered and powerful. I have a supposed 1w driver, two aixiz housings, a mini and regular. 4.3 ohm resistors, wire of all sizes, solder, iron, and tools. Just need help. I would be very greatfull. Definately need a good diode if it already had leads on it that would help. I want a blue or green.thanks guys

First off, hai and welcome

Now, I'd strongly suggest against trying to build high power blue lasers as your first.
You should try to build red or lower power violets first, to familiarise yourself with everything (from what's needed, through testing, to final assembly).

And I say "try" because, honestly, nobody got it right the first time. Everybody here burned a few diodes and drivers along the way of learning to get where we are now.

Losing a $50 445nm diode is a lot more difficult than $9 reddie.

Great. Well thankyou for the information. Its very helpfull. I did a small shitty build with just a 5mw in a duracel flashlight just to tinker aroundwith it but would like to go bigger and better

Unless that's a $250 reddie... First diode I burned was one of those Sanyo 40mW awesome-beam-spec 635s... Then I found out they were suddenly made of unobtanium and some places would be willing to sell me one for a quarter grand.

Yeah. Sometimes it hurts, then it hurts in a special way. So if you pop a diode or fry a driver, really, don't feel too bad. It's a rite of passage around here.

Laser Newb:

1) Yes, try with red first and a cheap driver to give it a shot, then move up to your 445 build. Folks here can help you with this and nobody's going to look down at you at all for building a low priced red. So while you did a 5mW with a duracell and all you may want to try maybe... a 200mW with an LPC815 next. Get you into the whole driver building situation... prep you for your 445.

2) You may want to talk to Avery about changing your name because after that, it probably won't be appropriate anymore. :beer:

I read it all already. But thankyou. And unfortunately I didn't read the wicked lasers thing two months ago. I ordered the torch. I finally got it about a week ago. And it is quite incredible but maybe u guys can make better ones here for less
