Hello, Im 18 years old and intrested about lasers. I live in Estonia(north-east Europe). I made a user here, because i need some help. I have already searched/read many guides, explanations, but still have some questions, maybe because i dont understund everything so well. English isnt my mother language and i may not to know every word, specially spesific words. Anyway it is very nice to see here are pretty friendly and helpful people. Well, im gonna say some word about my project. So, i have a plan to build 2w laser without host, i mean i wanna make it enough good cooling system that it can work for hours, so obviously i cant put it inside some host or it needs to be very large host and definitely i wanna put one or two cooling fans. I dont know does the driver needs one too. And definitely im gonna buy safety glasses also. Well, this is my project what im gonna do. Maybe im gonna some more add intrest when doing it. But i like optic thats for sure, thats how light acts going from one enviroment to other and how it reflects, thats pretty intersting and wanna do some experiments, maybe some has some suggestions, adivice. Welcome to the forum.
What color laser do you want it to be as that will determine if it can be easily made as a 2W laser or not.
Do you want the laser to be a battery powered hand held laser? If so, with what you stated it will not be possible.
It sounds as if you want to make it as an externally powered lab laser where you want to use active cooling fans and need to run it for hours.
I say that because batteries in a hand held laser will not last for hours running two cooling fans and a 2W diode.
Please poke around and see all the great stuff in the world of lasers. Be sure to use the white search bar at the bottom of the page as there is a wealth of information to see here. Remember to get proper safety laser goggles for the wavelength of your laser if it is over 5mW. Enjoy, have fun and most importantly be safe.

Hi, i didnt meant to build handheld laser, i know i need a case for that and i cant use fans with it. Sure if i would case it would last some minutes depending on size, before it gets too hot and needs to be cooled down. And of course batterys wouldnt last long, specially with high power laser diode. I thought about 12 v input. I have a laptop charger, but its output says 19,5v and 3,3-3,4 amps. I have read that its not pretty good. I have still some question, but i think im gonna make a new topic because im not sure do you read this topic. Ah, amost forgot, 445 nm laser i think. And i have read all your guides already many times :thanks:
