Well get some assorted wires and solders and start practicing on just soldering wires together to get started. The key to a good solder is when you apply the solder it effortlessly flows and surrounds the wires. (i.e. you dont want it to ball up) To do this make sure the wires are cleaned and hot before applying the solder, also try not to touch the solder directly to the iron, just ever so closely to it.
