Just wanted to say hello and introduce myself :)

I've been lurking here for some time now and have gained much advice and knowledge from existing members and threads.

I'm not young, I'm female, slightly geeky and a huge sci-fi fan :)

The best way I can describe my obsession with light/lasers/spectrum is that I'm really big on colour. That probably sounds a bit odd but anyone with a similar 'thing' about it will know what I mean!

I started off buying a few 303 lasers a few years back and have progressed to some more powerful ones now like the Wicked Lasers Arctic Spyder III, a 445nm Thor, generic 450nm & 650nm 1w lasers from FastTech (£20) that are actually really nice. Also a cheap 635nm.

I've also just ordered a 465nm and 520nm PL-E Pro and Mini from Jet Lasers after many questions and superb advice & customer service from someone called Gray. Also ordered the 10x beam expander as I believe the beam on the 465nm is quite narrow. I like a nice thick, visible beam! It's actually the colours I like rather than the power. So looking forward to receiving those :)

While I'm here I'd just like to thank everyone who's posted so far as I've read up A LOT & gained some valuable tips & knowledge and managed to fix what I though was a dead laser (my Thor, fixed with some tin foil on the end cap!) from the advice already here :D

I'll probably continue to lurk as I don't have enough knowledge/experience to add anything constructive, but anyway...

Cheers :)

Michelle x

Hi Michelle,

Welcome to LPF. I think you will find (almost) everything needed here. It seems to me that you also admire pure, precise and awesome beauty of coherent laser light as I do and almost everybody here does. Its unique properties caused me to fall in laserpainting addiction. So many colorful stuff can be done with it.

Do not hesitate to discuss stuff here, not always extensive laser knowledge is needed as there are so many topics. And if you do not know something and cannot find the answer via search bar or google, do not hesitate to ask and rise topic for discussion. Also in general people here like to give help and educate themselves as well as the others, so nice question might lead to doing some research and education in that particular topic.

And regarding age - everybody is as old as he/she feels. ;)

Enjoy and stay safe.

BTW - Gray is awesome - great decision to go with JL.

Welcome to the forum. Sounds like you've got quite a heathy collection of lasers going already. Well welcome and be safe. Bet it felt good to repair your own laser for the first time? Building your own even gets funner! :)

So many welcomes, thank you

Yes I'm very careful with safety, both my own and others. I've got a decent pair of safety glasses from Wicked Lasers plus a couple of other pairs for the various colours
