Hello, it's Nick from Houston (anyone else here rep houston?) Any way, I own a 5mw green dx cheapo, a lot of red lasers, a 50mw green laser from led-shoppe.com.

I want to change it up though and build my own violet laser. Ive done a lot of reading here and it seems one of the cheaper violet diode options is the PHR-803T. Is this good to start building with? As its only ~$20 in the module I don't think its much of a gamble. I have a few questions, however.

If I buy this 405nm PHR-803T Blu Ray Diode in Aixiz Laser Module Housing [PHR-803T in Aixiz module] - $19.83 : High Tech DealZ, Simplifying the LASER Hobby! all that would be left to do is buy and set the driver (1) and get the power supply?

1. Is there a way to set a driver without a dummy load? Or should I just go with one preset to 100-120ma? (any reccomedations?)

I personally feel you can set it with a multimeter. Set it to ammeter mode and then connect that to your LD Out part of your driver (Where the laser would be soldered). Connect your power supply, then adjust the pot to your desired setting. However some members will flame me for this because they feel it's too risky however it works for me.

I'm from Houston too then i moved to Spring.. not much further from there.. Right now i'm building a mxdl 3405 from jayrob.. i used this guide YouTube - MXDL Bluray Laser Hack Tutorial ignore how he's talking i don't really understand him either.. If you want to build a proper laser then i would buy your host/heatsink from him since it makes your laser last longer if you have proper heatsinking... if you want a complete module buy from moh here http://laserpointerforums.com/f64/fs-complete-modules-44555.html the host/heatsink i'm talking about is here http://laserpointerforums.com/f64/fs-mxdl-host-heatsink-combo-4171-3405-a-22512.html Good luck and if you have anymore questions feel free to ask..

EDIT : Nvm about the complete modules he closed it
