Hello everyone!

This post is a bit overdue as I've already been asking questions and conducting business here, but better late than never.

I live in the Philadelphia area and I work in software development. I'm a fan of technology (any kind) and I hope to one day build my own lasers.

I'm here because I've been fascinated by lasers since I was a kid (I'm 33 now). I remember seeing lab lasers in the Edmund Scientific catalog and thinking I'd never be able to afford one of them. Then my dad brought home a HeNe laser he scavenged from some equipment at work, but I was never allowed to play with it.

I got my first lasers when the laser keychain craze broke out in the US. Then about 6 years ago, I built my own burning laser from a DVD burner and a maglight. That's when I really got hooked.

Later, after seeing all of WickedLaser's publicity, I decided to do some research before purchasing, and that's when I found LPF (and found better vendors).

I took my time reading up on the basics here and decided I wanted to get some high powered lasers. Yes, for burning, but also for beaming at night.

Well, now I already have high powered red, green, and blue lasers. I am in awe of their power (and danger) every time I turn them on. Of course I have some good safety gear: OD7+ Laserglow glasses for 445nm and 532nm, and multiple sets of red and green/blue Eagle Pair glasses for spectators. I also have a custom tabletop tripod that can FIRMLY hold any size handheld laser.

I just built a tunnel fx adapter (thread here), and I am looking forward to some RGB experimenting (white laser maybe). I'm also looking to acquire some much lower power handhelds in the near future (am I doing this backwards?)

Anyway, I have already met some cool people here and I hope to meet more.

Here's what my current collection looks like:

Thanks, yes that is a red RT laser. Never thought I'd see a red beam; this laser is bright!

Wazzzzzzzap!
Very nice stuff man, I imagine it would be hard to fly with that suitcase:D

Software huh, I still need to figure out what career path computers will take me. Maybe you need a LPM next; with your software super powers your could make a sweet thread on the open source LPM. (sensor + arduino + parts + OpenLPM = rep; I mean an LPM)

Thanks for the welcome. I do believe there is an LPM in my future, and the idea of Arduino + OpenLPM sounds interesting.

Welcome to the forum, man. I am digging the case... I was looking at standard Pelican cases, but haven't moved toward pulling the trigger. It sounds like you have a good head on your shoulders with regard to safety. +1 for that and a nice introduction.

Have fun!! Looking forward to seeing a red beam someday too. :)

Welcome to the forum, Bungy. Your case and collection is most impressive. It's time I upgraded to a larger case. My collection has gotten too large!

I actually just ordered another case! Going to use one for lasers/googles/batterys, and one for accessories. I'm also trying to add some pen style lasers to the collection.

I definitely recommend getting a Pelican case. They are pricey, but will protect your stuff, and the foam is easy to shape.
