Hey everybody,

I've stumbled across your forum several times over the years, but I've somehow never created an account. I admit I've only ever used cheap green and red laser pointers, but I'm still a fan of lasers in general. I've got a diode collection I haven't put to use and a HeNe laser I'm working on now.

I'm an EE student (don't have a huge budget) at the moment, so I really enjoy electronic projects and science. I also really enjoy astronomy and regularly visit star parties in my area. I'm looking into a better laser pointer to use for this.

I decided to finally join the forum to get your advice on a few projects I've decided to start.

Welcome Rivem!

That's kind of neat you're interested in Astronomy, so am I. Although not so much looking at stars but learning about space and the different types of planets and their characteristics :yh:

I'm sort-of in the same boat Alex. I like learning about space a bit more than just stargazing. I decided to get into stargazing mainly because of that. For most people, it's the other way around.

Awesome.

Do you tend to watch a lot of space documentaries? I do that a lot

Yep. Not as much as I'd like to any more though. Between classes, I like to catch up on the new stuff astronomers discover. Gravitational waves and the potential new gas giant in our solar system are my recent favorites.

Welcome Rivem.

What field within EE are you interested in? Or are you still

I'm not currently specializing beyond just EE. My bachelor's program is pretty general, so it's not an issue. If I go for grad school, I'm thinking either computer, power, or radio; I pretty much can't decide yet. I'd really like to try everything out though.

Welcome.
There are a lot of laser related things that I have learned about here, safety being the most important.
Enjoy.

Still not sure. I'm thinking renewable energy, computers, and communications are all pretty interesting. I'm open to whatever I can get a good or interesting job in. I've probably still got about two years of sparse classes to decide though. Then again, if the opportunity presents itself, I'll probably go straight for grad school.

Double majoring like that is really impressive though. Which one do you think you use more?
