What's up everyone.

I've been lurking around the forum for about two years now, and I guess its probably time to start getting engaged a little more.

My name is Joe. I am from Macomb, Michigan and a sophomore in high school. I became interested in lasers back in the 8th grade, when my friend showed me his 1.2W blue laser, along with all of the burning tricks and a beautiful blue beam. He's actually a part of the forum, known as 'juniortore1'. As a start for me, he let me take home his 5mW green laser which had somewhat of a beam. It was pretty darn sweet when I had it, considering it was the first laser that I got to play with.

Later, I wanted a laser of my own, which I obviously wanted to be more powerful. So, I ordered a 100mW green. This thing was also pretty awesome, as it had a bright green beam, and it could burn a little bit.

After playing with the green for about a year, I decided it was time to start building my own lasers. After reading around the forums for a long time, I finally ordered parts for a 300mW red. A while after that, I finally built the same laser as my friend, a 1.2W blue, in a C6 host. I will be posting threads about these builds later.

Btw, I do have goggles for all these lasers :)

Thanks for reading! :thanks:

WELCOME joe...

Pretty good first thread-

One of you guys should start a 'Great Lakes Area Laser Group'

There has been talk in the past of a meet up that way and social groups ( if you REMEMBER to subscribe after you join!!) are a good way to make sure all who can attend know in advance-

I hope you move forward beyond just 'burning' stuff- as there are many more interesting aspects

and really... showing the wrong people this ability can come back to bite you on your ass. What looks Kewl to your fellow classmates looks dumb, dangerous and like something that should be against the law to others ( like the folks)
Most schools have a no-tolerance policy concerning lasers. As they should IMO.
If you are wise you will start now to encourage safe use and will refrain from letting your undereducated friends handle your laser in a public place.

I hand mine over to anyone that wants to take a look at it- but I take the BATTERY(S) out first-- when they ask why I did that my answer is simple- 'that is what I do when you ask to see my gun, I unload it... same thing'

I have talked to many cops about lasers and NONE said they would let you walk away with yours if they saw it being used around people.

Spread the word about what can happen-- intentional lasering of ANY aircraft is no longer just a felony- its a FEDERAL OFFENCE-big fine-jailtime or both- those guys have their sense of humor removed when the are given their badges and guns.
all law enforcement knows that many lasers are attached to weapons- how smart would it be to aim a gun at a cop??

I am not picking on you- I hope you help as many as you can to understand all that lasers can be-- both the good and the very bad. Dumbasses come in all ages.

Thanks guys. And hakzaw, the group idea sounds like a great idea. I would definitely join. And yes, I am aware of the school policies and the law. I would never bring my high powered lasers to school. There's really no point and you'll just end up getting it taken away. Speaking of shining lasers at planes, I made the mistake of handing some dumbass my green laser. The first thing he did was look for a plane and shine it at it. Just goes to show that you can't trust anyone with these things. Most people just treat them like a little harmless gas station pointer.

Great to see someone else from Michigan. I think that sounds like a great idea if someone could start a Great Lakes Group or something similar.
I agree, you have to be careful about who you show your lasers to.

Good to see you bought eye protection.

I think a Great Lakes group, like Len said, would be a good idea as well on top of having the Michigan group.
