You guys are amazing, I had learned a lot from you all since I had been lurking around the forum for past 2 weeks :thanks:

I got my 1st China cheap greenie for about USD25 and it was printed '<200mW',
It was very bright but I have no idea on its actual mW.
Here my 1st greenie:


I found this greenie was a fix focus and there is no accessories to do the focusing job. Hence there is no tricks can be perform by it. :cryyy:


After that, about a week then. I went hunting around at my area for a local supplier who did supply on torch lights and laser pointers. Here I found this - HJ A88.

Model: Latest Model HJ A88 (China)
Spec: unknow mW there is no sticker on it.
Here is my 2nd Greenie which cost USD30 (supplier price)



Here, it was very bright - slightly visible beam at well lit area(from this angle and no fog/smoke added :san


Very visible beam at night(but just can't snap or video the beam? must be a lousy camera) and it can burn matches with its focusing distance between 3 inches(within 1sec) to 3 ft(within 10sec). Able to cut PVC black tape but it took me 3 rounds of 40sec at 4 inches distance.

UPDATE 23 Dec 2012: Change to Red UltraFire 18650 Battery, Cut PVC tape within 8sec.





Do you think this greenie HJ A88 is a 50mW ? Pls enlighten me bros. Thanks in advance to you.:beer:

There is no way to tell its power aside from using an LPM. My guess is that laser is somewhere around 50mW. Did you focus it when you burnt the tape?

Welcome to the forum! Yeah, As stated above, There's no way to know. You're best bet would be either contacting some members that live near you or buying an LPM, Keeping in mind that your looking at $200 - $300.

Zeebit> Ya, I did focus it by adjusting the head. It was a pull n push mechanism.

Yeah, seems to be around 50mW. My 75mW when focused to a very small point will cut black tape fast in one go.

Zeebit> Does it need to warm up? Strangely, mine one operates optimally in lower temperature condition 23 Celsius:thinking:


Just did another burning just now with Red Ultrafire Battery 18650, cut the PVC tape within 8sec. I wonder if battery may greatly affect performance?

A lot of factors affect a laser's performace especially DPSS lasers which are sensitive to heat. It does need some warm up time but it should only take a few seconds. Battery can also affect performace but you wont need high quality batteries for that greenie. Those "fire" brand ones should be fine.
