Hello Guys / girls,
First I have to say thank you for this nice Forum.
I'm Nico 23 years old from Germany. I'm an Electronics for industrial systems and also a Flashlight modder and hobby Electronics with a good equipted workshop I also buildet some crazy flashlights with around 17000lm or some with around 500.000 lux @1m. At my younger ages I also buildet 200mw red lasers on myself but since I haven't had the money for safety equipment I cancelled the Laser hobby. But right now I'm old enough and responsible enough for get back again :):) because it's still fascinating me.

Im also searching for a new Laser right now but I will do a different post since this is welcome :)

Best regards
Nico

Hello Nico, welcome to LPF. You should add some more info to your profile or no one will remember that you are from Germany and are age 23, you should add Germany to your profile so it shows under your name, more people will also respond to some of your posts if they know where you are, we have active members from about 45 countries.

Hello,
thanks :) i just want to be part of the System and to be honest when you are new at something you have to leave a good first Impression of yourself. :D:D And also on the other site i like it when other members have their Profile Pictures and stuff they own in description :) it just makes more fun to read and is easier to understand.

best regards

Welcome, there is a lot of good info and lots of nice parts and resources to be found here, safety glasses are a must as the laser diodes available require safety glasses for up close work.

Try not to post on old threads, if it's more that 3 months since someone posted there that's necro posting and people don't like it.
You can read all you want, but try not to reply to old threads.

EDIT: 3 Months is a better rule of thumb, but if you can add value to the post then there is no time limit, if you just want to say, "yea that's cool" then I would stick to current threads for acknowledgement only type comments. :)

Two weeks is not necro posting, who told you two weeks is necro posting? I want to have a word with that SOB!

Or did you decide that on your own? A lot of good threads would die out if two weeks was considered necro posting. Plenty of threads go two weeks or more without a post and come back again. It has never been specifically defined what is a necro post as far as I know but I would say it's probably three months or so except when there is some significant related info to add to it then it's considered ok.

I pulled 2 weeks out of the air and you're correct, 3 months is a better rule of thumb, except when adding value to the thread in which case there is no unwritten time limit.

Good looking out.

p.s. I'm that SOB :D

Welcome to the forum, someone like you will do well with lasers too, there isn't anything better for throw than a laser :)

Try not to post on old threads, if it's more that 3 months since someone posted there that's necro posting and people don't like it. You can read all you want, but try not to reply to old threads.

Although his advice is a good warning regarding some members views, if you do find an old post on a subject you are very interested in and want to ask a question on the same subject, my thoughts are it is better to post in an old thread than start a new one on the same subject. Even Ped, a super moderator here agrees it isn't a problem posting to old threads, as long as something meaningful is going on with your post and not a "oh that's so cool" remark with nothing more.

I'm not disagreeing with RCB, he's right, I was negged by several members into the red when I first joined the forum for "necro posting" but I thought I was fine, especially since one of the threads was on the top of the sticky list. Since then, I have an attitude problem regarding this issue, no reflection against RedCowBoy at all who I respect a great amount.

Hello,
Oh yeah sorry for that. I didn't realised the age of the thread. Sorry :) next time I have to look better and then only post in an old thread if it is really necessary. :)

Thanks for help
Best regards
