Default Hello from Kansas City

I probably should have posted here and asked a few questions before pulling the trigger on this:

500mW Laser Pointer - High Power Laser Pointer Kit

I know the price is kinda fishy for such a powerful rating. I might send it to one of you guys to test for me. If it sucks really bad, hopefully the shipping charge back to China won't be too bad.

Later,
Ponz

I am a NOOB also, but that price really sounds too good to be true, I just bought a used 400mw 532nm for 170.00 and it came with 3 batteries, good charger and 2 sets of safety goggles off the BST section. I have a LaserBee LPM and would be happy to test it for you if no one closer to you offers, all I can say is good luck and get some goggles, cause you only got one set of eyes.

I forgot, WELCOME to LPF

Thank you very much. I might just take you up on that!

That 400mw you mentioned 'holds' 3 batteries??

nope only one 18650 at a time, the previous guy (CLay Westin, excellent seller and packing expert) apparently liked having spares, all the lasers he sold came with extras

Don't expect anything near 500mW, I expect something between 100 and 200mW, still a decent price for that power. 500mW should cost $200-400, I can point you somewhere that can offer 800mW for about $500 and whatever shipping is if your budget fits... otherwise check o-like and lazerer for 400-500mW greenies. Oh, and DON'T get rayfoss, I have been royally screwed by them.

Before I forget, if needed I can LPM it as well if you go your route. Not trying to cut you out of it RC, but if he wants a more established member I am available, and chances are a few vets here are as well.

No problem ZR, I know I am new to LPF, just trying to be helpful, and I always love to see a new laser and put it on an LPM especially if I did not have to pay for it, that way I can see if I like it before I would consider it as must buy item

Hello Again!

Well, the alleged 500mw arrived from IOQS yesterday.

It's solidly built and boxed well with one cheapie 3V LI-ion battery, charger and set of safety keys.

I charged the battery to full and immediately tested it on a piece of black plastic trash bag. It does burn through the bag, just not very fast. I don't have any black matches or balloons on hand.

I took it outside after dark and the range seem OK.

So - I don't know what to think regarding if it is 500mw or not. I watched a youtube video of a guy burning through balck plastic material with a 200mw unit that went a lot quicker than mine does.

OK - let's say that it is NOT 500mw. What does $100 buy in a legit rated unit these days?

Thanks,
Ponz

ps - I might take one of you guys up on a test, if the offer is still on the table.
And "if" it's not 500mw, I wonder if I should jack with trying to get a refund or exchange of some sort. Of course, if it's at lease a 200mw, I guess a hundred bucks isn't too bad, right?
