Hi,

I'm a mechanical engineer and i have a lot of presentational stuff to do. So instead of a "boring" red laser pointer or a newer green one, i'd like to have a blue one. And i need some suggestions which one i should buy.

I'm pretty shure, i find some advice in this forum.

Hello carfal, and welcome to the forum!

If you want a blue laser, you pretty much can't go wrong with SciFi Lasers.
If you'd rather put together your own, you'd be hard pressed to find a better supplier of modules than DTR. Joker and DTR are both members here.

But most of all, thanks for actually making your first post here in the Welcome section!

Oh, one more thing...don't forget the safety glasses for whatever wavelength you decide on! Safety is #1. You only get one pair of seeing balls, don't burn 'em up!

Enjoy your stay!

1-5mW of blue is going to cost you a lot more then red or green, that being said you have a few options when going with blue.

*Most expensive* Option #1: 473nm, this is a pretty exotic & rare wavelength with a price tag around $250+ for 3mW of it. Pretty expensive, but few people have seen this. Honestly, if you are just going to use it in a presentation this might not be the best thing to get.

*Cheapest* Option #2: 450nm. This is more of a darker shade of blue(not as light as 473nm is)and comes with a significantly lower price tag! For about 3mW of this expect to dish out around $45.

Option #3: 447nm. This is a wavelength many people have seen, so of course the price for it in higher powers is cheaper. Unfortunately, for this in TRUE 1-5mW pointers the cost is pretty high. Expect about $200+(depending on the seller).

I went ahead and clicked the sites which sell reliable 1-5mW blue pointers and the wavelength's. Find the one you like :)

473nm: Laserglow Technologies
450nm: LP 450nm 1-80
447nm: http://www.laserglow.com/GHP

[Other options] You can also build your own, which would allow you to chose how it looks along with the power it outputs, we have a couple threads on the forums about this. Another website which you can buy is from cnilaser.com. Lasers from there are cheaper then LaserGlow prices since they produce them(LaserGlow re-sells them). But be aware you need to use Western Union, and have to wait a few weeks for them to ship it to you

Hey tnx, the LP 450nm 1-80 was on top of my list even bevor you mentioned it.
I think I'll ask further questions in the blue, yellow and other forum. ;)
