Hi, I am 'Tom' from Germany.

I'm 16 years old.. maybe too young for this hobbie? Maaaybe..

And now for real:

im interested in lasers since ~1 year but haven't started yet because i never had enough money for buying lasers or something but now im in training/education and i earn my own money <3

i already have experience in soldering so i would make my first own laser my me self - did you understand? i hope, im not very good in english at all :(

if anyone know this flashlight: http://puu.sh/ccaXx/91cda16ec0.jpg

it got broken yesterday and i thought about it, to rebuild it into a laser

im not sure if it should be blue or green (520nm then) and the "biggest" problem for now is more or less, that i don't have any heatsink if you know what i mean

eh.. too much infos for now.?. sorry :3

Hi Welcome to LPF!!
Make sure to use the search bar at the bottom of the forum!
And make sure to get a good pair of safety glasses before you start messing with any high power lasers!

That flashlight host is a C8, you can get heatsinks for them pretty easily, then all you will need is a diode module and driver. Although there are some C8's that have a curve on the inside of the head, these will not fit a heatsink, if it is not curved it should be fine.

I don't think 16 is too young for this hobby, just be mature and treat lasers with respect.

Welcome to the forum :)

Hey Tom, nice meeting ya! I too was around that age when I first got into this hobby, but I didn't wind up getting any "serious" lasers until I was 19. Just make sure you're always 100% careful and considerate of where you're lasing, and you're better safe than sorry when it comes to goggles.

I think a pretty sweet first build could be one of the 50mW Osram 520nm diodes for that C8. Nice color, high brightness, but not overly dangerous. As 3Pig said there are heatsinks out there already for the C8 and you could have some pretty long duty cycles with the 50mW Osram.

Anyway, welcome to LPF :)

Hi,

that would be awesome!
Your idea is really freaking awesome :D

@3Pig: Yea it haves a little curve in his head but not that much.. I could mess it up if wanted :)

@Frankie9011: Where I can get those Osram-diodes? On E-Bay they are very expensive and have more than 50mW of power. :x

Sounds good :)

I already used the search function a bit but I found nothing yet for a C8-Heatsink. Can anyone tell me, who are able to make one for me or would sell it?

:thanks:

Try giving Mrcrouse a PM. IIRC he makes custom heatsinks and can do aluminum or copper.
